My current car is a 2013 Taurus with the 3.5 v6. I'm getting a class III curt hitch for it for free. 400 lbs tongue and 4000lbs tow max. It's the only vehicle I got. Do you think this will be ok to haul 2 bikes on a little uhaul trailer out to the track with? I've seen civic's and such pull the same setup so I figure it should be alright??

Make sure to dial in your tongue weight, and put anything on the heavier side (canopy, tent, gear, spares, etc) in the back seat and not in the trunk to spread out the load so as to not weigh down the rear.

I think you should be fine. I've towed 2 bikes with my 4 cylinder accord with no problem. My hitch only had a 200lb tongue weight. I didnt actually weight the trailer tongue. Just made sure that I could lift it with 1 hand. 400lb tongue weight should be more than enough if the trailer is loaded properly.

the hitch will not be the limiting feature of the setup, the car will be. If you are using a simple ramp trailer thats relatively light 2 bikes should be no problem. If you plan on towing an enclosed trailer with 2 road kings or 2 gold wings then i might pick up a different rig to tow with.

It's not the car, it's the brakes that determines a large factor of towing. Sure you can pull it, but can you stop it?

Yea. I'm not worried about the trailer or hitch. I was more worried about the power and brakes on the car. I think it will be ok. Thanks for all the help.

I would be slightly skeptical. My v6 04 Accord hauls my one bike completely fine, but I go up and down a bunch of hills on my way to streets of willow, I don't think id be completely comfortable towing 2 bikes. My brakes will stop it all, but I don't trust my trans. My car is already known for having trans failures, 117k later and just now towing with it is definitely not gonna do it any good.

Make sure you drain and fill your trans fluid, or at least check it. Check all your fluids before you head out, and once you arrive or at any stop. Also, if you're gonna use a Uhaul trailer, I find that it doesn't always twist on as much as it can (you'll see what I mean once you tow if you don't know what I'm talking about) so I literally just hook it up, drive it down the street pull over, and tighten it up more.

Works every time.


Good luck with towing man, and I would also suggest checking out your warranty, if having a tow hitch voids your warranty, you're gonna have to take the tow hitch off every time you bring it in to service.
