Basically I threw a rod that damaged the engine block. I have an old 07 RR engine at home with a good engine casings. not sure if the rods , bearings and crankshaft is good inside that engine.

My question is What needs to be replaced other then engine casings seeing i threw a rod and caved a hole in the engine block ?? or what are my options , I honestly dont want to buy another used engine , seeing i already I have that has most of the components..

What are the main components that gets damaged when you throw a rod and cave a hole in engine block ??

Throwing a rod is usually an aftermath of some other issue. Did you overrev? Ran on low oil/oil pressure? Was the engine getting toasty? There's a myriad of other reasons the pistons go. Usually with something that violent, you'd be looking at damaged crank, journal bearings, possibly valve damage, cylinder damage, cooling/oil passage punctures, and metallic bits getting places where they don't belong causing a cascade of other issues.

Unless you're comfortable, have the time and willing to put in the effort to gut the block and piece out everything that's toast, you are better off swapping the whole engine.

So in sum, thrown rod == complete tear down and rebuild or get another.

Quick question please

can a bent rod be caused by over revving alone, if everything else is in working order and good condition?

I don't have any direct experience with that, but, I think you would bend a valve before a connecting rod.

How bad did you over rev her?

Let a friend an ex rider on it. They were a bit careless with the throttle took it up to red line and stalled 3 -4 times before i asked them to get off..

that's when the rattling sound became more noticeable hence replacing the CCT. Hoping the High to low rpm simply caused CCT to stick..

If the bike did not go over 15k rpm then that's not an over rev. The only way to actually over rev an engine, is to take it up close to redline, and then downshift, such that the rear wheel over speeds the engine.

What your friend did doesn't sound so bad, and shouldn't have really hurt anything imo.

I've heard too many stories along the same lines of "let my friend take a quick ride, bike came back making X sound".

ahh get what you mean, makes more sense. i'm familiar with the down shifting to soon sound, although no where near red lining fortunately..

We expensive toys so i was more then likely over thinking it by the sound, just let my nerves get the better of me their.

Glad that's out the way
