How do you guys transport your RR when you go somewhere far and don't want to ride all the way to your destination. I am thinking of going to the mountain to ride this spring but don't have enough cash to get a trailer. I have a Ford Explorer SportTrac and the RR should be able to fit on it with the tailgate down, but am not too sure about letting the tailgate down while going up the mountain. Can anyone please tell me how to secure the bike with strap. Thanks

Get a canyon dancer!! best money i have spent for hauling the bikes to the track. The harness goes over your clipons and it keeps the straps off the expensive paint/plastics. Strap it down with a couple of tiedowns and you're set to go.....

also, make sure the bike is in gear and sometimes i put a large ziptie around the brake lever as extra insurance that it can't roll forward or backward. I get carried away sometimes when it comes to strapping in a bike put it's better than losing one on the highway at 55-70 mph IMO.

My friend puts a tiedown through the back wheel and hooks it to either side of the truckbed at the rear.

Canyon dancer(hate the name) and some tie downs. Leave bike in gear and its not going anywhere.. I take mine back and forth to track days in my dodge.. Bike is about 2" too long for me to put my tailgate up. No matter ramp is a couple inches too long as well.. Never had a problem with the bike moving.. Just fyi. careful when you tighten down the straps not to compress your front forks to much. It doesn't take much for your bike not to go anywhere.

hey,

im the dude with the Sport Trac

I transported my RR every weekend in the back of the Trac this summer en route to my cottage. It fits like a glove in there and the tie down brackets that come on the truck are perfect for securing the bike down.

I have a single ramp that folds in half that I load the bike with. I always have someone help me just incase though. The tailgate will not go up obviously as the bed is not big enough...the rear rear tire sits right at the back of the tailgate...like a glove.

I've got nothin better to do tomorrow..maybe i'll throw it in the back and take a picture ;)

Can't you get one of those metal gate things that flip out onto the tail gate to stop the bike from moving backwards? (Bed extenders or whatever they are called)

I have the aluminum bed extender and the hard tonneau that you can get for the sport trac. The bed extender is just slightly to short to allow the bike to fit so I just take it right out and obviously the hard tonneau comes off....both very easy to remove though. The bike does not move WHAT SO EVER....i mean it does not budge....i have backed down steep ass driveways with my bike in the back and it doesnt flinch...i've also been running late to meet people and had to drive slightly faster then i normally would on some bumpy/twisty roads and the bike is 100% fine..im not reccomending this by any means but just to give you an idea

I'll do a little photo shoot tomorrow of the setup. Sport Trac has been a great vehicle...its nice cruisin up north with the bike in the back with the sunroof open and the rear power window down....i mean, its not as good as riding but if you are going to be driving a cage you may as well do it in style with the bike in the back ;) haha

One of the best investments I ever made for transpoting my bike to and from the track is the Sport Chock made by Baxley Trailer Company. Check out this link. It also makes it real easy at the track when you have a race bike especially those with no kickstands. Pricey, but well worth it in my opinion because it makes transporting so damn secure and you don't have to cinch the crap out of the tie downs and risk busting a fork seal.

Use one tie down on each handle grip. You make a loop like a figure 8 and wrap it around the grip and tighten it down hard core. About the tailgate, its fine I do it in my s-10 all the time just leave the bike in gear. And in the back, use 2 more ratchet tie downs like on the front and hook the to your rear foot rests just for keeping the tire from going back and forth.

When I used to trailer dirt bikes to the track (usually several times each week) we had a problem with always blowing fork seals. Then someone told me about the trick of putting a brace -- just a length of fat PVC pipe -- between the front tire and the inside of the fender. This took the pressure off the fork during transport, and our seals lasted a lot longer.

Of course you can't do this with a sportbike, but the point is to not go crazy cranking down the straps. You pressurize the fork internals when you do that, and that will cut down on your seal life. As someone said earlier, just tighten the straps enough to hold the bike pretty steady. That's all that's needed. If you crank down enough to compress the fork more than maybe an inch, it's too much.

tues. I hauled my new 600rr(black)home from the dealer in a buddys truck. it fit snug against the tailgait closed. Toget it out of the truck me and another guy grabed the passenger pegs pulled the rear wheel off the tailgait while another guy was in the bed guiding the handle bars. we got tthe bike out ok was not heavy at all. however we should have pulled the back tire staight back then down not down right away. I heard the bottom fairing crunch against the tailgait. I waxed the bike the next day and every thing looked uncracked. good luck
