Just purchased and tried getting the fairings off to have a looksee as I tend to do most of my own maintenance but got stuck at the middle cowl.

The three bolts in a line would just spin and spin without undoing, could feel the nut in the back just spinning.

Is there any tricks to avoid this happening or have I just done something stupid?

Sounds like the nut has come off of the rest of the well nut. Try and hold it with your fingers till you get them off. Look on the inside when you get it off and see if the nut is still secure in the rubber. If it's not then you need to get some new ones or some dzus fasteners to replace them. T

Well its a long weekend here so thought I would save a bit of cash and take the bike apart treat it to some fresh oil and a clean, but alas these bolts are still giving me grief.

Tried using a screw driver under the bolt to pull it against the nut behind whilst undoing the bolt but that didn't work.

Tried squeezing a pair of needle nose pliers in to grip the spinning nut but there is only room to do this on the middle bolts and can't get enough leverage to work anyways!

Arrrghghhhghghh!

Will have to make do with cleaning all the gunge out from behind the sprocket cover and cleaning the rest of the bike for now until I can calm down enough to attack these bolts again :tard:

Once you get them out buy some dzus fasteners and you won't have to worry about them again. T

Dzus will be going in after this hassle!

Now got all the fairing bolts undone, but cant pull the whole front off due to the Air duct covers and there clip into the tank being difficult.....

I will persevere and either injure myself or beat this stupid problem!

Goes to get power drill...............:tard:

I spent an hour trying to finagle mine off last night until I realized there is a trim clip on the inside of the duct covers that holds the covers to the ducts. Take these clips out, and you should be able to get the whole cowl off pretty easily, then the duct covers just pull out after you remove the one last trim clip on either side of the tank.

Yip got all the trim tabs out, managed to find a manual online, but the airduct covers are still being tricky.

Managed to get the right hand side cowl off the air duct cover by using a drill to unsrew a bolt in the process melting the rubber grommet...... but the other side decided to strip the bolt out...... bugger so back to the drawing board.
