I had another thread on this but it was mis-titled ( not sure why i put Hey as the title...:tard: )

Anyway, today I changed the oil with 15w-50 and puralator filter ( the one on the board that is said to be good ) I thought that is why the clutch let out at the end ( maybe slipping? ) then that did not fix it. So I adjusted it more and that did nothing. The adjustment is pretty far out already. So I took her on the highway and got it into 5th gear and hit the throttle ( I did this on all gears to check it ) and when I was in 5th gear, I tached it up to 10k and there it went. The RPMs got to ten then I heard the engine rev but no more speed and then the RPMs dropped back to ten and tried to grab to 11 and did the same thing as above. Basically the engine had no power from 10k and up... Any idea?:puke::puke:

Did you check if the oil was a non "Energy Conserving"
Energy Conserving oil that makes it "Extra slippery".
which cause the clutch on a motorcycle to fail b/c there simply isn't enough friction.
If your oil is an non-energy conserving. Then your clutch is going bad.

Def check the oil's service ratings, and you didn't perchance go from regular petroleum based oil to synthetic did you? 15w-50 seems like one of those weird synthetic weights to me. If so, I'd think about ordering a new clutch plate/fiber kit and some tighter (Barnett works great) clutch springs. I put synthetic in my 599 and the clutch slipped, though not as bad as yours, fixed it with the springs. My 900RR had a bad clutch when I got it, was going up the Coronodo bridge when I found myself slowing down and the rev's climbing! :surprised

I put in mobil1 15w50 extended... the gold cap.

I went from honda gn4 to mobil 1. What I dont get is the bike is super low miles. 3700. I bought it from someone that ran it on the track a bit so maybe he burned it up?

Should I try to adjust it by the clutch next? ( I tried by the handle bar already ) The throw on the lever is bad. The clutch engages almost at the end of the release.

This is car oil.... read the bold bit below - dump that oil & put motorcycle oil back in..

yes is it. I noticed it so then I changed the oil. I had gn4 in there before...

I think it is the clutch. The prev. owner says he only had a few track days on it, but maybe that burned it up? I'm not too sure...

I know that I beat the **** out of my cr250 clutch and its 8 yrs old and I just replaced it... and think about how much you clutch a two stroke in the woods...

What is the Amsoil type of oil to run ( im going to use this next oil change, after I put the new clutch in )

10w30 MCT is the Amsoil to use. otherwise 10w40 MCF is ok too. 10w30 is the updated CBR specification

Your honda clutch shouldn't be dead in 4000m...!
It could also be 'badly adjusted.
Just release the cable at both ends & readjust as per the manual.

I agree. 4000 meters is way too soon! lol!

could be as simple as the PO replaced the clutch pack incorrectly... not soaking the fibers and what not.

Could also be some really bad attempts at clutching up wheelies and burnouts.

not saying it can't be dead - just unlikely. Also by 'readjusting' the cable it costs him nothing.
That's one very tight clutch cable then. but you're right, it doesn't cost him anything... but he already tried that so i doubt that's the problem.

what do you guys mean freeplay? that can mean alot.. like Ive got CRG adjustables on ther and there is tension on the lever but the clutch doesnt let out until almost the end... let me take some pictures..

when the lever is all the way out (meaning the clutch is engaged) how much distance does the end of the ever travel before resistance is felt as you pull the lever in?

the distance it travels with no resistance is known as free play.

here is the picture of the clutch lever... notice the gap by the arrow. that is where it lets out ( clutch starts t grab )... almost all the way at the end of the throw. but the lever had ZERO freeplay ( in terms of tension on the lever ) the lever is tight before i squeeze it.



here is the picture of the clutch sides adjuster... should I mess with this some?
