Hi every one.

I own a 2008 CBR600RR (non-ABS) and I have noticed something strange with my frond brake level. I usually ride hard and I never use me bike for
commuting. Just track days and hard riding. Servicing is always on time.

The other day I went for a ride, but after the coffee break (one hour in duration), the front brake level didn't feel the same any more. The bike would start braking with much less level travel (the level had to travel for 2,5cm before for the bike to start slowing down. Now it only needs 0,3-0,5cm of level travel).

The braking force is the same as before though but I can not find a reasonable cause for such a difference on the braking feel, since no braking servicing has been done recently. I've checked the brake pads and they don't seem to be the problem.

Has anyone had a similar experience, or better yet does anyone know what might be the cause of such a thing?

Tweek the adjustment knob to a different number, play around with it till u get the feel back. Weird bro... I wonder what that could be. That's where I would start.

^^^ Dang N you got to it first lol...Check the brake adjuster knob on the lever some one my have played with it while you were away on brake and maxxed it out..That's where I would start first.

Yea Bro like ESP or some shizz lol we posted at the same time lol so I had to edit mine yours got up first but I've had buddy's screw with mine when I was new to sports bikes so I always remember my settings now and look before I ride.

Haters gunna hate bro. Practical jokes are not funny when it comes to the bike or my car. Everything else is fair game lol

Yea They taught me how to control an unwanted endo really quick in traffic the first time so lesson learned I chewed their a** but I watch my settings on it like a hawk. Nothing like unwanted, unintended brake input to ruin a good day but Live and Learn just glad I can react and learn on the fly almost literaly.....

That was the first thing to check. The adjuster is where I always have it. On No.2

When is the last time u flushed ur brake fluid? My buddy didn't service his rear brake for over 3 years. When he finally got around to "bleeding" his rear brake it came out dark and gooey/tar consistency. If ur breaks pads are fine, ur lever is in the same setting ur problem may be with the brake fluid or brake lines.

Nope....

When he finally got around to "bleeding" his rear brake it came out dark and gooey/tar consistency. If ur breaks pads are fine, ur lever is in the same setting ur problem may be with the brake fluid or brake lines.

I changed my brake fluid 3 months ago, but still would it be responsible for something that changed in just an hour??? (with the bike being stopped). Braking power and feel are still the same. The only thing that changed is the level travel the braking starts at. I have the bike for 2,5 years and I am the first owner with 19,500 Km on it. Never had to change the adjusting knob since the level travel never changed. I'll try changing the brake fluid though.

Any other ideas anyone?

Yes things can easily change in an hour even less in some situations. Really hard to2 diagnose something like that without being able to look at the bike and put hands on maybe N_Sandhu or if Nicco or Highzer is around they can chime in these are really great smart ppl on here..

Thanx brother, Nico and Highzer are in a league of their own. They both have their Doctorate in 600rr's and I'm still working on my undergrad :crackup:

Just speculations. Give you something to consider or look into, brainstorming if you will. I'll stay tuned to see what the big dogs have to say, subscribed to hear the solution!

@ OP. If everything feels the same and the feel of the lever is your only issue, why don't u just play around with the knob to see if u can find an adjustment that you like? Give it a shot for the time being until someone can chime in on what is causing this

I would first check the barke fluid level, if it's low, I would deff check the pad life. Sometimes when the pads are thin, it'll take a little more lever movement to move fluid through the lines. The thinneer the pads the more the lever should have to move to start to stop. Same force as you say, but whatever you do, do not add brake fluid. Change your pads and fluid, she should be back to new.

I have checked the pads and they were half way through their life. Nevertheless I did change the pads today and after bedding them in the problem is still there. I will probably change the fluid tomorrow and I have already ordered a new brake pumb, just to be on the safe side.

After following your build thread N you are way ahead of me lol I can fix almost anything I touch but explaining with such input over a forum I can hardly do..It's been said of me the only thing standing in my way of being a mechanical genius is money lol..well I hope to one day have money but for now I have to many children. That's another discussion tho...this is my bump for OP hopefully someone wiser than I happens across this thread
