So I saw this on the WERA schedule, and thought "well what the hell, why not give it a try" Begin it now, right?

What would I have to do to get registered for this? I am already eligible for a provisional license.

What classes are there? How about practice, is that included in the race fees?

Any suggestions/comments?

Go check out the WERA rule book, it will tell you what racing schools they will except. If you're not licensed you go out in the novice class, and have to wear a shirt over your leathers, for two races I think, without crashing, then they give you a license. The classes that you can race are also in the rule book. I think the 600 is a B class. Sat. is endurance/solo race, sunday I think there are 2 or 3 races that you can do. Two practices each morning and you're gridded according to how many points you have with WERA, which will put you dead last.

gboard - to get a taste for it, why don't you sign up for a GP race with TPM. I've seen a handful of reds in there. You get the normal trackday fun with a race at lunch time. See how spooked you get when someone locks elbows to elbows with you in turn 1. Would be funny watching you and Travis go at it. "Watch that kill switch."

Matter of fact, why not haul your arse up to Summit this weekend for the Monday GP race. Begin it now! Right?

Had to throw that out there. If your serious, good luck and be careful man. Your a better man than I, I mean bigger, lol, no - I mean taller...

CMP is fastttt. And you may want to think twice about getting your feet wet like this. Not to discourage you in the least, but just wanting you to examine the task at hand as well as what you are putting yourself in the middle of.

WERA is generally more competitive than CCS. If I were you, I would start with CCS. ( www.ccsracing.com ) But you might grow some hair on your chest by putting yourself out there. Either that or it might scare the sh!t out of you.

How many track days have you done and what kind of experience do you have on the track? Hessogood mentions the TPM gp cup race which is a sprint race on a track that you have had way more time to get accstomed to then any race weekend. And its only $35 bucks on top of your track day fee.

If you have never been to CMP and are set on racing, there is usually practice on Fridays for racers. Then you get two 15 minute practice sessions on Sat and Sun morning plus your races. f you race Sat, you can still practice sunday even if you dont race.

WERA also requires transponders to my knowledge and must be rented at a cost of $60 or purchased for around $300. If you keep your rental receipts, once they add up to the value of the transponder its yours. CCS does not charge for transponders.

Racing is awesome but it is dangerous and CMP is a very fast yet fun track. You come through the bank righ hander kink well over 110 mph. And there is a fast downhill right hander that can send you off track in a hurry if you are not careful.

TPM does a track day there over Thanksgiving weekend. I will be there. And there will also be a GP cup race that weekend. This weekend is fun since it is the end of the season for most and some ama and WERA experts come out and then you get to see what fast really is.

Read the article I wrote on Trackdays and racing by going to this thread.

And Best of luck to you if you choose to go out there. Let us all know how it goes!
