Actuall man, if you are just getting into racing, I suggest:

1. letting someone set the stock bike up, suspension-wise, for your size and weight. Don't worry about re-springing (if not necessary) front forks or a new shock while you are still learning

2. SLip-on or full system (your preference)

3. Race Plastics (of course)

I say this because I raced the entire '03 season in WERA SE as a novice on a 600RR with only a slip on Jardine and placed in top 15 every weekend (with a few top 10's and even a couple of top 5's) out of fields of 30-45 bikes--- predominately Zuk 750s.

The only difference I have made for next season is a full system with PCIII. We'll see how that treats me.

But you gotta get the fundametals down first and it'd be a shame to spend a grip to have an 'unfortuante' happen that causes you to spend it again due to lack of experience.

Just my nickle - three cents.

I have a few suggestions and some are different than vdub's thoughts.

1. Do not waste the money on an 2005 to race. Put the 04' on the track or buy a used bike. to start

2. Get the suspension worked. Rear shock and forks resprung and set up for your weight.

3. Race Body work & frame sliders

4. Steering damper

5. Engine covers

6. 520 chain conversion

7. Rear sets

8. pick up extra wheels on eBay and tire warmers

I think suspension is a huge must from the start. If the suspension isn't working right it can cause you to crash and make you work so much harder while riding.

things like clip ons, exhaust etc etc are not a must, but nice.

Stock 03, stock suspension, all unnecessary street and weight producing items removed.

AK Composites race fairings
Bridgestone BT-002 Tires
Chickenhawk tire warmers

For now, I'm having fun pushing the bike on the stock suspension. (max preload upfront -#6 out back) I know it could be improved by maximizing the springs for my weight but I can't complain. The bike does whatever I ask it to. Eventually, I'll upgrade.

I may get a Jardine pipe for next season but this is due to being drowned out by those v-twins(as I pass them :D ) and I can't hear what my bike is doing. If it sheds a few lbs, even better.

The best mod for the money? Take all of the cash you were going to spend on bike mods, and put it into trackdays and trackschools.

Rider mods > bike mods, any day.
