Did some searching through old threads, Didnt find anything on what happened to me. I then did searches and still couldnt get the answer I am looking for or related so I am posting.

I have a 2008 CBR600rr with just over 3k miles on it. I bought it barely used from a dealer with 1600miles on it. It came with Repsol plastics. No Mods done yet. Had the oil changed to 1/2synthetic / 1/2regular at Lee's Cycle in San Diego. First time I have ever had a bike serviced at a shop.

The Problem I am having now is I used to be able to do power wheelies no problem in first gear. I did a wheelie for about 2 seconds then came down softly. The next time I tried to do it it felt like something spun and I now have a loss of power and cant even get the bike to buck very much even in first???? I thought the chain loosened or the throttle cable slipped. The chain is at the same tension it previously was and both sides of the swing arm are even at 5 clicks from the front. This is my 3rd bike on the road and 8th bike overall. Been riding since I was 11 and im 23 now.

ANY IDEAS?????

sounds like the clutch might be slipping.. try adjusting the clutch cable

How often have you been powering up in 1st? Do any of your other gears feel like a loss or lag of power? Maybe it's all in your head.

its in all the gears not just 1st put first I notice it a lot because I have so little power. I will adjust the clutch when I get off around 10 then Ill update when I get home. Thanks Guys

If clutch is slipping you should be able to hear that, Is the motor revving or bogging? The general rule of thumb for clutch cable adjustment is you shoud be able to fit a nickle in between the clutch perch and clutch lever(!mm of play) Has it been since your oil change? Maybe they overfilled it!!! Make sure they used motorcycle oil and not car oil,.

Yea they used motorcycle oil. Dude its Lee's Cycle. They dont deal with cars. They are a motorcycle race shop and I definitely trust them. Just so you know how good they are to customers... My grandma knocked my bike into my truck and it snapped the mirror off. I went to Lee's and they did the oil change, then the dude got me a mirror and put it on for free. Then he polished my mirrors, windscreen and all the plastics. Then I said the brakes were "chattering" and hes like o maybe the rotor is bent so he flipped the bike around on the lift then took it for a friggin ride....All free of charge dude. Now that is service man.

Oil change was 3 weeks ago. Started acting up 2 days ago. I am about to leave work so I will adjust the clutch right now and I will have to update tomorrow. I might ride around a bit tonight with some diff settings to see what works, thanks for the help everyone!!

Hey just curious, does the bike have a rebuilt title or anything? Just ask as there is no repsol edition '08 600rr, so odds are all the OEM plastics have been replaced with a cheaper made in china set that you can buy with repsol paint.
With so few miles on the bike and all the plastics having been replaced, it might have been crashed fairly hard previously.

I figured it was a repo bike beacuse it had the aftermarket plastics and had such few miles. The title is clean and clear though. The shop probably bought the bike at an auction which is typical here and fixed it up...

UPDATE ON BIKE: I adjusted the clutch cable and it didnt make any difference what so ever. I tried many different adjustments and tried it all many ways and it didnt change anything with my problem. The problem is there is a slight lag from when you throttle to when the wheel turns and the power kicks in. I might be crazy and it could just be the chain. I hope that is the issue...? I will adjust the chain tomorrow morning and go from there. I really hope its just the chain is loose, otherwise it could be expensive.

So the reason I cant get the wheel off the ground in 1st is because it takes too long for the power to kick in. Say I throttle it then typically I would let off then gas it a bit and vuala the wheel would pop up. Now I throttle it a bit and it lags, then l let off and throttle it again and it lags so it wont pop the wheel up.

SOOOOO the issue is that there is a definite lag between me giving it gas, and the rear tire getting the power. Any ideas??? besides clutch

A few things could be wrong. The shifter forks could be damaged, though it may be unlikely that this issue is caused by that.
Find out exactly what oil the shop used. Just because a place has a good reputation and only deal with motorcycles, doesn't mean that they are not able to mess up and put in an oil with energy conserving additives.

Do the RPM's go up faster than normal without power getting to the rear wheel? You could have damaged something in the clutch basket (prongs, springs, etc), burned out the clutch discs, or warped them.

I will find out what oil they used. I know it was a half syn and half reg. When I am riding I can have the clutch out and be cruising then gun it and it takes just a sec. to kick in now instead of it doing it instantly. The rpms dont really go up faster. But I can notice that the power is off a bit. Its like it is holding back on me. Should I have a shop check it out or try to figure it out myself? I know a lot about a lot of bikes but I dont typically like messing with the newer bikes because they are so picky and have to be completely on to be running well. Last bike I rebuilt was my 99'cbr600f4.

An engine is an engine, no matter how new or old it is.
So, when you get on the gas, before it gets going like you opened the has a lot, the revs don't go up any? Just want to make sure I read that right.

The clutch discs are probably worn out, or something else within the clutch basket broke. If you have the ability to, remove the clutch cover and inspect it.

I agree. If the RPMs go up and the bike's speed doesn't then your clutch is too thin. The pressure plate will only go so far in towards the clutch, Once its worn out that plate bottoms out on the clutch basket and puts less pressure on the clutch letting it slip.

Thanks for the input guys, I will check uot the clutch on Tuesday and update asap. Until then, thank you to everyone who has contributed to helping me out! Hope I can get this issue solved soon!

I'm pretty confident in it being the clutch discs. Excessive slipping of the clutch eventually wears them down. I'm on my 3rd set of friction plates/discs in 11k miles.

What RPMs are you powering up at? If you are trying to below 6k i can understand how the revs would go up with no significant increase in power at the rear wheel. If you can get the wheel up at 10k no problem then i would be looking at something other than clutch.

Demented: How does one wear out 3 sets of disks/plates in 11k miles. I've had more hard launches and clutchups than i care to mention, and have over 36k miles on the stocker, which is finally starting to slip.
