Some makers shave of weight by making their frames lighter and their components more flimsy. This may make the save some lbs, but at the same time it compromises the bikes structural and mechanical integrity.

Dude, by comparision to my SV650 its really light to me. I can steer it with my knees for petes sake. These days a "Light" bike is pretty objective.

My F2 is heavy, the RR is a cheetah compared to that bike.
F2's were pigs compared to this bike and they are still fast by comparison to a lot of bikes for there day.

I moved from my YZF600r to this bike. Steel frame -> aluminum frame among other things.

ALthough I guess to scale, its like 20% heavier.

Don't forget that honda engineers lowered and centered the weight to make it seem lighter.

The makers also lie when they list the weights. Even Honda.

I posted this last year. Personally I think the Honda is a fat pig

yesterday we were at NHIS and we went into the scales garage and weighed our bikes.

2003 R6 = 385lbs (almost full gas tank)
2001 Gixxer 750 = 377lbs (1/2 tank of gas)
2004 600RR = 399lbs (1/3 tank of gas)

all three bikes have full Ti exhaust systems, sharkskinz bodywork, etc...all three are completely race prepped. Like me, the Honda needs to go on a diet.

I also own an R1, which is a bit heavier than the 600rr...but honestly it doesnt feel all that much heavier.

the last 600 I owned was also a yzf600r

And I can definately concur that theres a SIGNIFICANT weight difference there. 20lbs of weight is pretty trivial IMHO when comparing 2 different bikes...80 lbs is another story, haha.

More important than gross weight is how that weight is distributed. I can BET you that you could find a bike that's 20lbs or so heavier yet "feels" lighter due to its COG (center of gravity).

just my .02

it's light, no doubt.

want it lighter? spend the $50k and get all CF parts. can be done! find a CF Manufacture and design team! i think it was $2000 to sign the contract, $200/lb for components and $80/.hr for engineering...! CHEAP!

Gasoline weighs about 6 lbs/gal, so these measurements will be affected by the different fuel loads. (Certainly the RR still will be the heaviest.)

Crazy to think that if you pull in to a gas station empty, you'll weigh nearly 30 lbs more on the way out!
