I was reading an article in Motor Cyclist mag. (11/06 issue) about "Why we ride?" I wanted to here some of your responses on Why we ride?

I ride because, I get a superhuman feeling like flying along the earth and glancing at everything passing you by at speed. Looking down at the earth at 70 mph and knowing you are only inches from touching it. I get a calmness on my bike that when I am upset/angry after 10 minutes all my frustration is gone and I am focusing on making all curves seem straight. People that do not ride bikes look at me like I belong in a mental institution...Then why do others that ride bikes know exactly what I am talking about?

There were a few of the comments in the article where I could relate with. Here is one:

I ride because when I do, I can easily ignore pretty much all of my life's issues, and simultaneously focus on what's really important at that moment: the challenges of skillful riding and the intense rush of being at one with the bike, the corner and the moment. In that setting, whether it's total escapism or total clarity, I am fulfilled. by Paul DiMarchi, owner Northern Colorado BMW/Ducati

Yea I think that nailed it!

That and the feeling of you accomplishing things that scare the hell out of others... ;)

The RUSH and pull of my 1000RR then quick handling of the 600RR that allows you to feel like you have so much control over something that you really have so little...

Oh yea and I am OBSESSED :)

I ride to compensate for the lack of having a penis. lol j/k!

I can't tell you why I ride. I've been doing it since birth. It's become second nature to me. My Dad was the one who got me involved in bikes. Funny that still to this day I get butterfly's in my stomach when ever I'm getting gear up to go for a ride. :)

I have found out one thing that is a constant with all motorcyclists, all are romantics in one form or another, I just happen to be a bit poetic and have a decent handle of the written language.

Basically the release of all lifes issues and stresses. I have no worries when I am on that bike, just in the moment. I have only experiancd a few other times like that in my life and most of it has been around motorcycles.

I know the feeling of others looking at u awkward but I finally converted a few or at least made a few understand. When i went home on leave I brought my dad along with me to Pacific Raceways for a track day. Well, my mom, uncle, aunt and grandmother all came out at one time or another throughout the day and watched. While I know my uncle used to ride sportbikes in the past, I think I finally won over my mom who is the biggest worrier over me riding (especially like that). I think it finally dawned on her how much I loved it and how much fun I am having. I pleases me to know that I have at least imparted some understanding to those outside the motorcyclist lifestyle.

Also, I have noticed that when i ride, I don't smile or have many facial expressions. I smile after I get off the bike, but for the most part, I concentrate so intently that i have no emotions whatsoever. Its like reaching nirvana and complete bliss were my mind is freed for that time I am on the bike, even in traffic. I am free from earthly ties and left to myself and my mind is open to new fields of thought. I am usually more ready to write my heart out after a session on my bike then any other time.

oh ****, that's funny :sign10:

personnaly, I ride because I like the adrenaline rush.

I also ride because I like the surrounding environnement passing by at moderate or high speed ....

and finally, I ride because my fiancée doesn't like to ride and it gives me a good time, by myself, thinking about myself and myself only. it has become my selfish moment and I love to have it once in a while.

I can testify to the power of the motorcycle! I have had neck problems for years, I don't know if it is from sleeping wrong or stress. But with in the first week of getting my bike and riding it, me neck problems seem to have almost cured themselves.
Just ask my wife, she was asking me why I was taking so many pics of my bike last nite and I told her it was because I was thinking of sell it. You should have seen her face. She just about kicked my a$$. Even though I would never sell it, I just like messin with my wife!

i guess i'm like most of you, when i ride it takes me away from everyday life worries. i am concentrating solely on riding the bike and don't have time to daydream and wander in my thoughts. its not like driving where you sit in your car and start to think about things on your mind. it's an escape from everyday life for just a bit. also the thrill from riding adds joy to the experience.

I ride because Riding is not only a style of life for me, It IS my life. there is not one day that passes that I dont do something associated with it, and I love it, I constantly get bitched at by my significant other because of this but its maybe due to her knowing that when it comes down to it, if I had to choose, between riding and her, I would miss her.

I know that they tell you to not ride when you are angry or depressed but I find riding helps me clear my head. I pretty much forget about all that **** and focus on hitting that apex haah....all within my abilities of course. Then when I get home, all that crap comes back. =\

I ride because I enjoy the time I get to be alone or with some friends. It just makes me feel like I am in a whole other world. And it is an awesome stress reliever. I can totally relate.

I personally ride for most of the above said reasons, however some other guys who i know (and they are many in my country) ride for the sake of attracting chicks attention and be easier for them to flert and get more and more girlfriends!!
Thank god i am not that type.

i suffer from very frequent black outs so riding help me to forget all my issues and just enjoy life at 150 mph.

:icon_lol:
I hope you don't take this the wrong way but having frequent blackouts would be a good reason not to ride. Do these blackouts happen without notice? Blacking out at 150 mph or even at 10 mph would be a pretty bad experience.

Now if you are kidding about the blackouts I feel dumb. :)
