http://www.cnet.com/news/xbox-one-price-cut-what-you-need-to-know/

M$ has finally bowed down and admitted what everyone knew all along. $500 was to much for a XB1 w/ a kinect that no one even wanted to have. Now starting June 9th for those who have been waiting to get an XB1 you can now get one at the same price as the PS4. I'm not an M$ / XB1 fan by any means I think they have made major mistakes with this console and the fact that they have reversed every decision made on this console since last years E3 announcement just kinda leaves the console w/ no identity and just treading water w/ no clear direction in where they are really going with it. There is no doubt they needed to change something in order to try and close the gap in the sales lead the PS4 has had since day 1. Although the XB1 is not my cup of tea I still wanted to post this for those of you who may feel different but thought the $500 price tag was to steep.

The other tough spot this leaves the XB1 in is that how does this make their base feel? Those who are hard core XB1 gamers who got one day 1 and didn't really care about the kinect and now people are going to be able to get the console they wanted for $100 less only 7 months after it was out. The other problem is that how are they going to price the kinect now. If they sell it for less then $100 its also a slap in the face to their core base who spent more money on the same thing.

Early adopters of any new tech know that they will not get the best deal overall, I know there will be PS4 game bundles and price cuts down the road but you make that sacrifice in order to be one of the first to have it and in your own eyes that makes it worth it. The problem is there just has to be some time in between this changes so you don't slap your base core consumers in the face. Its a slippery slope but I feel as though in this case M$ was damned if you do and damned if you dont type of situation.

Most of my buddies have Xbox 1 so that is most likely what I will get. Now that it has dropped a $100 that's a little easier to justify it. I already have gold so that's not a new expense.

While we are on the topic though, I read an interesting article yesterday about how energy the new PS4 and XB1 burn through.

They are changing things around w/ Gold as well. Services and apps such as Netflix will no longer be locked behind a paywall. With the Xbox ( any of them ) you had to have gold in order to access things such as netflix so you were paying your internet provider for the internet and then paying M$ to have "permission" to use things such as Netflix on their console while accessing the same internet that you have already paid for. I could see it if they had a different internet service that you used for steaming TV / Movies and playing games but its not like that. Now they are going towards what Sony has been doing since the PS3 where you can use Netflix / Hulu w/ out having Playstation Plus. So at least they finally got their heads out of their ass's in that aspect.

As far as the power consumption I always leave my PS4 in stand by mode and I have a smart TV so I dont stream netflix on the console its self and I can also stream it on my blu ray player. I know some use their consoles for lots of other things so this may effect them in some way but I'm not to concerned about the power consumption when playing games or in standby mode
