Are any of the Shogun marking tools still floating around?

If so, let's get the list going again, I know a few of us would love to get our hands on one so we could install our sliders. *

If not, can anyone post the specs so anyone who needs one, could make their own?*

I'd like to get my name on the list as well. I just ordered them today but I can always mark the spot now and cut when I get them.

I had some time on my hands this weekend, so I went ahead and installed them using the laser method. It worked great. So I wont need the marking tool anymore. Thanks anyway!

Check this thread out. Its shown with an 03-06 bike and different frame sliders, but the same principles apply to our bikes with the shoguns.

Not sure why i wrote the same question twice with two different spellings.. haha brainfart.

ANYWAYS, just so everyone knows, i still dont have the tool. I'll check out that laser method but with my luck, something will move during the process and the final outcome will be a lot of F-bombs

I was reading the thread and i noticed that alot of people are waiting for the marking tool. Has anyone used the play doh method at all? I dont think its in any shop manuals but basically what you do is the same as the marking tool. You remove the bodywork (the lowers on the 09's) and you back the stock engine mount bolts all the way out. you guesstimate where the bolts are going to contact the bodywork and in that area (you usually have to remove a small piece of the foam so that the play doh will stick in the area that your going to cut out). When you figure out about where the bolt is going to contact the bodywork you put a thin coat of play doh on that area. You reinstall the fairings and then you gently push on the bodywork in the area where the bolt is. When you take the fairings off the play doh will have an exact impression of the bolt head. Then you just take a power drill and make your pilot hole in the middle of the play doh impression and you've found your center. I've used this on quite a few bikes and its universal for any bike with plastics that ive found. I am assuming that the frame marking bolts would work even easier but if people are having to wait or spend alot of money this method might be worth a try.

I have 5 bolts of the proper size/thread... only question is length. What's the Overall length of the tool everyone is passing around. I'll make a few and get them out.

Easiest way i have found is to take some white lithium grease and use the bolt that goes in there.. kinda same as play dough method... Put lithium grease on the head of the bolt and leave it sticking out far enough that the head will contact the fairing when when fairing goes back on... take fairing off, ba da bing ba da boom you got yourself a marker...drill center mark....There ya go. no need to wait for marker tool

Not sure why so many think its so hard to make one I just made one myself. I just went to Weslake and picked up a 12mm x 1.25 pitch hex head bolt and used a bench grinder I got at Walmart for $40. All you do is slowly rotate it as you grind it down evenly at an angle untill you get it to a point. Then all do is thread it into the frame by hand or with help from vise grips. Once installed just mount your lowers and press against the bolt until it leaves an indention in the plastic. That gives you the exact center. Hers a pic of the bolt I made.

Pretty simple to make, some people don't have a grinder I guess?

I would rather sweat a little everyday in leathers, than bleed a lot once

Look a few posts up at the post I put about making your own its super easy to pick up a bolt from the local hardware store and grind it. I personally don't recommend using a hole saw since you still risk it cracking out or chipping the edge. I drilled a starting hole and then used a Dremel and just sanded the hole out to the perfect fit.
