I opened up my stator cover and we found that one of the cables that was coming off the stator had stripped and it had made contact with the cover so it was grounding out.

We reconnected the wire, and electric taped it. I'm not sure if this will hold up with the oil and stuff.

Do you guys think I should just spend the money and buy a new stator or just ride it out and see if it gives me any problems?

The glue on electrical tape will break down when the oil gets to it & it will eventually unwrap

They make a product called liquid electrical tape that might work better
Just make sure to clean all the oil off the wire before applying the liquid electrical tape....I'd use electrical contact cleaner cause it dries fast

You might want to put several layers of it on the wire to ensure a good insulating layer so it doesn't ground out again

Anytime you expose electric wires to harsh environments you should use this product. Liquid Electrical Tape provides a totally sealed joint which is flexible and fire resistant. UV and water and most chemicals will not affect a joint sealed with Liquid Electrical Tape. Dries to touch in about 10 minutes and fully cures in 24 hours.
Get it at Walmart - $6 :

Walmart also has the electrical contact cleaner (around $8)
