DIY Turn Signal Mirrors!

OK guys and gals, I decided that I would like to add turn signal mirrors to my RR. I do not like the look of the 1kRR's or the GSXR Mirrors. So I got these mirrors off egay.
Here they are next to the stock ones
So Next after having taken the mirrors off and removing the fairing they were screwed into I then got out my Dremmel. I bought this cutting wheel attachment.
I then cut a whole in the middle of the two stock holes the original mirrors screwed into....

Next I placed the fairing back on the bike

Then I ran the wire through the hole I drilled and behind the front panel. I then bought long skinny bolts that fit inside the stock holes without having to drill them out. I used a washer on top to that the top of the bolt would catch the mirror. I used a nut on the reverse side.

Then I wired up the positive and negative ends of the wires.(there is no running light) and that is it. Simple mod, other than the fact the bolts that came with the mirrors didnt really fit correctly. Here is a look at the finished product with the newly added hot bodies flushmounts(smoked) let me know what you guys think??
I didnt catch the flushmount when it was blinking fully, oops.

Here is a look from the riders view on the bike

The bolts stand out a bit but the wire is concealed pretty well I think.

Hey great job, way to be different! Do you have any pictures from the front under the mirrors? There seems to be a fairly large gap in one of the pictures. Do they vibrate at speed?

I think what your seeing as the gap is actually a rubber cover that slides down to cover over the slots where the bolts go in. They do not vibrate at speed I screwed them down pretty hard. You can see the cover I'm talking about in the picture where you see the bolts. The cover is slide up to expose them. The covers just don't slide down and sit flush very well.

i did the same after my two stock ones broke off. i used the bolts from the origional mounts though. the only thing i really don't like is the extra space at the bottom of the light mount on both sides. i routed my wires behind all the plastic though so you can't see them or the bolts at all. Would look almost perfect if there was no space, and they were matte (08 graffiti)

Yeah I have mixed feelings about how the mirrors look. I like the signal in them. But they are glossy and nothing else on the bike is. I dont think that I will be painting the mirrors. I'am currently already painting the engine cover. Additionally I plan on giving my bike a costom paint job over the winter. Daytona blue, something along those lines.

visibility is slightly worse but not by much. Nothing that makes me want to put the stock mirrors back on.

Speaking on the stock mirrors does anyone think it would be possible to drill holes in the stock mirrors and put LED's in them???

Thanks for the write up. I intend to do this as well. Which eBay seller is this from?

Also, how is visibility from the side? I may skip the flush mounts altogether and simply remove the stock signals from the fairings.

Finally, when you did the wiring did you just cut the stock connector from the stock signal and cut and twist the wires? Any soldering?

Sorry for the noob questions, I know nothing about lighting mods.

Thanks for your help!!

We successfully drill holes in the stock mirrors and conceal the wires all the way to the bottom, BUT this is not a cost effective mod that we are going to pursue. No way we could charge what these led mirrors are selling for. Sorry. T

I like these mirrors the best (so far) because they don't force you to mod the fairing stay (and the fairing that much for that matter). It's the easiest to switch back to stock. Unfortunately the size of the base for these is HUGE and doesn't sit flush, so I'm gonna keep waiting and hope that someone comes out with one specifically for the 600rr.

A note about the bolts... why couldn't you reuse the stock bolts? They are at least black and should be the right length, at least then you wouldn't see the huge long silver bolts under the hood. Just my .02 cents.

From the pictures it looks like the stock bolts won't be able to hold the new mirror mounts.

From the eBay description it looks like they also come without the aftermarket adjustable mount. They have ones that bolt to the stock mount.

Visibility from the side is not so great during the day. The light is only seen well from the front, sorry to disappoint. If you skip flush mounts your going to have a hole in the fairing you might as well buy them the proton ones (i have them) are only like 40 dollars. Increases viability which increases safety.

I cut the connectors off at both ends and wired everything together, because there were now two signal wires 1 from the mirror and 1 from the flush mount. So I couldn't cut the connector off and re-use it. I did not solder them, i just twisted them bitches up and used some electrical tape. lol.

I'm not sure which ebay user sold me the items, however I found them by simply searching for 600rr mirrors. I'm sure you will find them with a similar search. You could also consider GSXR Mirrors as well?

The head of the stock bolt is to big (diameter) to fit into the space allowed by the mirrors, So I used a skinny blot with a washer on the top and a bolt on the other side. Then I just used a wire cutter to cut the bolts to my desired length.

You could always try to order black bolts or paint bolts black if you really wanted too.

I know I am kinda bringing a thread back from the dead here (I figured it was better than starting a new one on the same topic). Anyhow, the knuckles in my stock mirrors are cracked due to my move from WA to AL (stupid movers) and it has gotten to the point that I have to be very careful when adjusting them otherwise I'm afraid that they'll break off in my hand (I do minor adjustments all of the time due to changing my riding stance here and there). So, I was considering getting some new mirrors and possibly ones with integrated turn signals (such as the ones you have, I have also seen them on eBay) but I was really kinda wanting ones that could be used as running lights as well for some increased visibility since I Rizoma Zero-11s on the sides. Do you know of any aftermarket mirrors which have a running light in them as well? Do you know if the '08 1000RR mirrors will bolt up to the '07 600RR stock mount? I'd rather not go with the GSX-R mirrors as I like the look of the '08 1000RR mirrors better but I'm open to options. I don't have a problem using the mirros like you have (I don't really like the alternative on eBay that looks like stock mirrors with 3 LEDs on the front side); I just thought I'd ask around to see if there were any other options that I hadn't found.

My First Bike: Black 2007 CBR600RR - Traded In
My Second Bike: Red 2009 CBR1000RR ABS
- Honda Racing Rear Seat Cowl - Woodcraft Frame Sliders - Stompgrip Traction Pads - Shogun Bar End Sliders - Shogun Swingarm Spools/Sliders - Rizoma Front & Rear Axle Sliders - Rizoma Locking Oil Cap - Rizoma Crankcase Slider - Tripage Throttle Lock - PAIR & Flapper Removal - 2010 Undertail -

- Keeping it stock with a little style - I already have too many projects -

My mirrors are not wired to have a running light, this didn't matter to me because my flush mounts don't have a running light either.

1kRR Mirrors or GSXR Mirrors are probably the only things you are going to find that have a running light. Stock to stock 1KRR mirrors DO NOT fit with the same bolts. However, you can drill the holes out making them bigger and use different bolt/nut to hold them in. There is a thread on here some where a guy actually put them on his 600RR7. That would be the best place to look to find info about using those mirrors. Best of luck with your mod.

The guy you're referring to put 1kRR mirrors on his bike or the GSX-R mirrors on? I know I've seen a 600RR on this forum with the GSX-R mirrors but not the 1kRR mirrors (the searches I did didn't pull up much). I'll see what I can dig up on the GSX-R mirror install; do you know if they bolt on in the stock location or need modification as well? I know that the mirrors you chose would go great on my bike since I have the gloss black so if I don't go with the GSX-R or 1kRR mirrors, I'll def go with the ones you did.

I know I don't need running lights in the front but I wouldn't mind having them if I could get them so I'd like to see if I could run them down as a possiblity for increased visibility (drivers here in AL are worse than what I experienced riding in WA) and as far as I'm concerned, the more lights the better.

Edit: I found the thread showing install of 1kRR mirrors onto an 07/08 600RR.

Well the wife managed to break one of my mirrors off and I saw these up on ebay and was wondering if anyone has tried them out. To me they look to be a stock mirror with led's, also a direct bolt on and then run the wiring?

I have not personally used them; however, when I was searching for the same type of item I heard lots of negative reviews about the mirror quality being poor (as in the reflection portion of the mirror was garbage). That is not to say that these are the same but it is something to consider.
