Tent cities springing up...where are we headed?

Tent cities are popping up now by those stuck without jobs who can't afford a place to live anymore. I'm sure we are going to start seeing stuff like this around the country more and more. Looks like something straight out of a poor 3rd world country...this isn't supposed to happen in prosperous America, right? How far is this gonna go? We are just getting started with this recession...

Glad my name could be added to something. But not the circumstances I wanted it to go under.

Shanty town: The tent city is already home to dozens of people, many left without jobs because of the credit crunch

Socialism doesnt work...we need tax rates at 0% for everyone including businesses for the rest of the year. Put money in the peoples pockets instead of growing government...this isnt that hard

^^^ The first bailout effort would have covered income tax for every working american through the end of this year. That would be real change.
Thanks for the bail out help Obama. The only people getting help is wealthy bankers and corp execs. He is intentionaly creating a welfare state.

Supposedly we're bailing out the banks, which will in turn lend money, which in theory should boost spending and the economy. Only one little glitch they forgot to consider ... how are people going to take out loans when they lose their jobs and have no place to live? The unemployment rate is now over 8% and correct me if I'm wrong, that doesn't even reflect people that have been out of work and have exceeded their unemployment benefits or those that have given up looking for work.

This plan is BS and was never about stimulus. It's about redistribution of wealth and payback IMO.

that wont be a good idea with 0% tax. its would be the worst idea to fix the current situation.
1. it would mean that 0 goverment workers will get paid for a year that makes up a good portion of the spending population. it would only decent us even faster then we are at this point.
2 the national dept will shoot sky high which prohibit government spending on all their projects for the incoming years.
3 it would eliminate all government contracts bid or no bid. as a result, militiary contract will no longer be fullfill. the domino effects are unimmagentable. for example, the JSF (F35) program have been around since the early 1980s. only recently we are in production. to stop the processes flow at this point would put too many companies out of business because of their concitrated capitial investment. if that happens, it will take another 5-10 years and billions to restart the program to current status. it means that it would knock america's world tech dominiating status back 5-10 years. meanwhile china is closing the tech gap real soon. the econic impact along will be astranomical. our gas pricess will reflect the price the rest of the worlds is paying, because we can no longer musule our way in the global market.

those are a few that i can think of at this point.

the bottom line is that the government is pumping cash in to the market to delay the blow. hoping that the market will stablize before the full effect that is accociated with the bill.

what they need to do is keep the current tax budget, or increase it a little more to close the gap between national income and debt. and STOP spending on proks special intrest and other none critical project such as loading all the medical records electroniclly.

they need to put money back in to schools, into students, fix up inter states highways, directly building green housing and their leasing programs, improve current power grids for more energy efficencies, and reevaluate their current method of determining well fare to get rid of the leechers.

Yea, the no tax thing wouldn't work... American needs to do one of 2 things, 1) seriously limit government spending/budgets, or 2) go for broke and use this time to invest in their future. What America needs is another "go to the moon" type project but focus it on eliminating their dependence on foreign energy. If they put the mind to it America could have a beefed up electrical grid + new electric cars/technology that would fuel their economy (and the worlds) far more than these Obama make work projects. This could easily be well on its way to something awesome in 10 - 15 years and would payback dividends for many generations.
