So you want a Supersport as your 1st bike?

Saw this on a local forum and figured it was worth sharing.

This is for the age old question that gets asked here often enough.

fist bike was a rebel 250!

I do suggest a 250 "sport bike" if your wanting to get one later on... I basically had to relearn riding after i switched to the rr

My 1st was a 1000R ninja back in 1992. I came from riding moto-x since ace 6 though. So I had a lot of seat time.

Nice post. Ninja 250 here for my first bike last year, and just as the article said..had my first crash after 2 months (Another car cutting infront of me).

I'm still breaking in my CBR (Have under 500 miles), and I completely understand the likelihood of a crash or lowside. I have it fully paid off, and full insurance coverage for that very reason. If it happens, it'll be quite a sad day..but it's reality. Pay the deductible (if my fault) and keep going.

Jake.

Also think about the power a modern 600 super sport makes. My first bike for myself was a nighthawk 750, it had much less power and weighed about 250 lbs more than my 600rr. It maybe did 135 mph tops. The power to weight ratio is ridiculous on newer bikes. Older sport bikes from the late 70's and 80's are nothing like they are today.

My first bike was the little 250 Rebel they had at the MSF course, then I hopped on a 91 600 F2 and got my current 09 RR a year later. Hoping to get on my first dirt bike sometime Soon™ too!

There is a lot to be said about starting on something with too much power! The riders always run out of skill before the bike runs out of capability. New riders never see that part though. My favorite to hear is "I went into the turn, and just ran out of tire" To which I want to reply (and may depending on the situation) "No brother, you ran out of skill!"

2009 CBR600RR, 2008 CBR600RR, 2006 CBR1000RR, 2011 YZFR1, 2009GSXR600, and a few more...
