Question Value of 08 600rr fixed w/ Chinese Fairings?

Hey guys.

I'm interested in a 600rr that has a rebuilt title because it was stolen and dumped (crashed). It needs quite a bit of work to come back to life (which for some reason I enjoy working on these kinds of bikes).

I want to do a trackday or two on it, and sell it come late spring (think May-June).

It looks like I'll be able to pick up the motorcycle for $2000. It needs $1100 in parts. I accounted for everything including nut and bolt prices, shop expenses (my personal garage). This includes, Auctmarts fairings, quick accel chain/sprockets, tires, fluids, general lubrication, new levers, front fork rebuild.

So I guess I'm asking, is it worth putting approx $3100 in to this bike to enjoy it for a bit, with it having a rebuilt title? It looks like 600rr's sell around $4500, so I was hoping I could get $3500 with the rebuilt title. Sound crazy? or fair market... Discuss.

It's worth about 500 more than one without a lick of bodywork at all.

a crashed bike that's been scabbed together with ebay junk isn't worth much more than the price of the junk.

I bought my salvage tile bike a couple years ago (2007 with 4000 miles) barely wrecked. It was about $2000 and then another $700 for fairings and random fun parts.

Ultimately, the bike is worth what your willing to pay for it. I had no problem putting together a salvage title bike and saving a couple thousand bucks. I also have no intention of selling the bike, so I don't have to worry about resale value.

If its just a minor crash, and your going to use it as a track bike anyway, I would talk them down as much as possible and go for it. But then again, I'm bias.

Just cuz someone says “jump” you don’t have to say “how high?”

I’ve heard so many story bout bike that won’t start, died on the way home, etc. after they’ve purchased the bike.... and it was clean title. I’ve bought some salvage bikes and have not died on me... as a matter of fact if not the same they’re healthier than my buddy’s clean title ones.

Reason they salvage it is cuz the value of repairing it is more expensive than the price of the bike itself. When you really break it down, cost of labor would be in most case more than the replacement parts.

So in what sense would a salvage bike is consider “trash” over fairing damage when a track/race bike that’s been dumped several times and abused it and when they sold it with mint oem fairings only because they use race fairings and replaced rashed stator and clutch covers... and not even a thousand miles the bike died.

At least with this bike you have your guard up. Inspect it and make your judgment base on what’s needed, than negotiate.

I really appreciate this.

Ultimately this is true. The 600rr is a bike I really loved at the race track. I like my VFR and I'd rather not take it into the depths of the intermediate group. I'd like a neat looking 600 to take to a track day. It wouldn't cost me much if I crashed with Chinese fairings after all :).

Hopefully I could resell (its a bottom line, after all). If not, it will always be in the storage unit for when the bike needs a beating haha.

I think I could get it for $2k. Gotta get a trailer hitch installed on the car though, that's for sure.
