Did my first track day.

I did my first track day at jenning's yesterday, good fun, defiantly a learning experiance, probably even more so in the planning department then in the riding part of the day. we had 8 people going, 6 including my self had never been.

The owner of a local shop went and lent his experience to us noobs and let us prep our bikes the day before at his shop, for one of use that ment rebuilding forks (long story)

due to people sleeping in the morning of we got on the road almost an hour and half late.

on the way the trailer towing 4 of the bikes blew a tire so we had to stop and change it.

the place where we got the tire changed was the most backwoods shop I have ever seen (and i have seen a lot of sketchy auto shops) it was the first time i had ever seen someone use a sledge hammer to change a tire, it was a 13 year old tire and no balancing it either, took a very slow trip home.

now the fun part, the riding...

I see why people quit blasting the streets once they start track riding, the lack of things to hit in the event of a crash was a huge confidence boost.

started off slow for the first few laps, then started to build speed, next thing I know I feel the unfamilier grind of pavement against my knee going through turn 8, wee, I just dragged knee (not the impossible goal that some have made it out to be after all)

on the last lap of the session something scary happens, my front brake lever FELL OFF, luckily at this point I am not blasting into corners at full speed so I finished the lap safely into the pits. the turn worker picked it up and brought it in during lunch, defiantly put a damper on the day as I didn't have any spare bolts.

a friend let me steal one of his bullets for one session so I at least got to ride a bit more.

our group had some more bad luck on top of the flat trailer tire, by the end of the day with 3 of people had wrecked and we had 2 mechanical failures (my lever bolt and a Ducati randomly getting an leaking oil)

As moe said welcome to the addiction, meetings are held Friday-Monday depending on your sponsor ;) (lame reference to AA meetings, wow I need help)

As for your lever falling off, stuff happens, you learn over time what you need to have a great day even when the schite hits the fan.

Glad you had a blast! Sounds like you had the right attitude for a noob, I still see a lot of egos come rolling into the grid! Anyway, glad you had a blast and welcome to the fun!

welcome to the club

over a long period of time the track expenses will probably add up to being less
a simple speeding ticket + lawyer fees (600.00 ) if you plan it right a track day would cost you less than that and will put more smiles on your face and the best
part is your other half wont be pissed at you

Watch out for the turtles that like to pop up out of nowhere during T2

Also OP I see you're from FL and Gville stands for Gainesville correct? If so do you enjoy living there? All my family is from Gainesville and I like to go fishing around there (Clearwater)

yeah I am from Gainesville, love it here.

is the turtle thing a common occurrence? happened twice the day i was there.

next time I will defiantly bring more bolts and spare parts, I had plenty of zip-ties, just no bolts, or at least non that would work, even tried the local napa at lunch time.

the 3 track days is bit optimistic, but i am defiantly going in July.

Nice meeting you on Monday. Bummer about not getting your lever back on. I thought you had something figured out.

I've seen a turtle once before, btw.

Got my 1st trackday planned for July.
I just know I'm gonna get addicted. But I'm plenty sure my old lady will be happier with me blasting around a controlled track than on the streets. She's really looking forward to going, so that makes me much happier.

Sounds like it was a pretty crazy day. I thankfully haven't had any drama traveling to the track before. Not the greatest way to start the day.

It really is an addiction. I have totally changed the way I ride on the street after going to the track for 3 years. I'd rather just cruise on the street and leave the shenanigans for the track.
