Barber TD crash w/ pics

Well it was my first time at barber and my 3rd track day ever. I had a great time except for a big high side coming out of T5. The back tire had been sliding out on me several times but I had been controling it. I made a stupid mistake on the white flag lap and took the turn in a gear higher then normal (wasnt even trying to set a fast lap). When accelerating out it started to spin up again. Only this time I was at lower rpm's and could not control it before it came around on me. I completely low sided the frame slider and rearsets prove it, when I started to let go of the bike it caught traction it picked me up and threw me over. Stupid mistake on my part and could have been avoided. I never did chop the throttle tho lol. Anyway here are some pics for your enjoyment.

I guess its ok to post proofs. I'm gonna order the cd anyway.

I was pretty happy with my times, I broke into the high 1:40's. I dont think I ever got below 1:49 though, couldnt tell because my lap timer split in two during the crash. I was working on my corner speed and lines mainly and was just starting to bring it all together. My goal was to get close to the mid 1:40's.

I think I was having so much trouble with the back stepping out because it was 90 degrees that day. It was sliding at pretty much neutral throttle, but I guess thats what it's supposed to do to give you feed back so I cant complain about them.

I forgot to mention I was on pp 2ct's. I think I'm going to bump up to dot race before next time.

Well, glad to see that you are OK. DOT race tires are amazing btw. You can still get really good deals on Pilot Races, since they are phasing in Power Ones. There is a deal over at sportbiketrackgear for them right now.

Those are some good looking pictures. How do you like that Shoei? I was thinking of getting that one as my next helmet. Any design flaws? Pros? Cons? Wind noise?

The last picture in your first post is hilarious. Got your leg up like it's a Jane Fonda workout video hahahaha

I thought the same thing about that pic haha! As for the helmet, I love it. No problems at all. Wish I wasnt wearing that one when I went down. The face shield took the most of the damage tho.

Sorry about your accident. At least you were on the track and not the street. The track is the place to let it all hang out. Barber is a fantastic facility!!!!

Was this last weekend, (7/25 and 26)?? I was there.....and yes it was hot!! I managed to run a few laps in the low 1:46's. Was at 1:48 most of the day.

yea that was last weekend. It was so hot I didnt think I was going to make it saturday. They say you should be going to the restroom between every session. I guess I sweated all mine out. I drank a 20oz watter between every session and never went once all day.

Those were pretty good times you were putting up. I wish I could have meet up with you on the track so I could have followed you around for a bit and maybe dropped my times. What kind of tires were you running and did you have any problems out of them?

Not bad for your first time there. Also, its good that you know about being up higher in the RPM range when sliding the rear so as to control/limit the spin up.
I didnt find that out till earlier this year.

And yes, it was extremely hot. I was there that weekend too, with Johnmark and cozye. I had several slides and I was running DOT. I even lost the front once coming down T2, but it came back to me. So, maybe the track was getting a little greasy, I dunno? I know I did run my time ever on Sunday morning, I ran a 1:43

There were lots of folks from ky there. I'm from a more eastern part of the state. We also met a guy that drove there by himself too. Just be lucky you all didnt crash because all three of us did . We figured barber just didnt like the kentucky kids haha.

btw..I would love to turn a 1:43 there. When bluegrass opens you all should pit next to us and show us the fast way around the track
