NHMS First Trackday...

To all those who said trackday's are addicting.... I hate to say it, but they are right...

Day One:
First session... Each instructors lead a group of five bikes thru all of the turns showing us the proper line and going super slow... after follow the leader we had a classroom session working about each turn in more detail... After class we were with the rest of the beginner group with instructors following us...

As I progressed throughout the day, I gained more confidence in the bike, the tires, and also hanging off the bike more. Most of the first day I was getting passed by some of the faster guys down the straights because I wanted to focus on getting my lines and body position right. In my two O'clock session I finally had a few hundred feet of track to myself so I started to brake a little later, getting my body position early and turning in with more entry speed. I was surprised at how far I was leaning the bike over, when I was looking for the apex's of a couple turns. The last two sessions of day one I made it a point to be one of the first 3 or 4 riders on the hot pit lane so I could have more of an open track. With the open track I able to look farther and focus more on myself on the lines with the help of the instructors. It was great to have the instructors follow me for a few laps and then having them talk to me on what I should do better. At the end of the day I was doing a lot better than some of the other riders, especially this one guy out on a Troy Bayliss Special Edition 1098r ( http://www.carphotomobil.com/motorcy...liss_LE_04.jpg )...

I was beat after the first day... I never thought I could get that tired from just doing 8 or 9 twenty min sessions... After dinner and watching the Lakers destroy the Celtics in game 6 at home, I passed out...

Day two:
First session out I took it easy letting me get reacquainted with the track and still feeling a little sore from the last day's workout. Second session on, after letting the tires warm up for the first lap and half I was getting on the gas sooner thru the turns and braking later than day one. I was starting to pass more and more people. It felt great to pass a zx10r on the brakes and then holding my line through the turns, he would get me down the straights but I would beat him on the brakes and the turns. My body position felt great until I dragged my toe thru one of the turns.

Midway thru each session I would start to take it easy on the straights and just cruise to give my legs and my body a breather. I was using my legs more than I thought I would. After each session I started to stretch out and take a five min shut eye. I was getting really tired, it was a damn workout!!

Overall the second day was cut short, and we missed the last two sessions of the day because it started to rain, I didn't want to chance crashing out on my first event. I

It was an awesome experience... I will definitely be going back... NHMS was a very technical track, turn 6-9 were awesome! ( http://www.tonystrackdays.com/index....tegory_id=3386 )

I was hesitant at first, but I heard nothing but good things about it... So I pulled the trigger and did the two day... It was well worth every penny... I got to learn a lot.... I still have a whole lot to learn before I start to go fast... I was working on being smooth, but being stuck behind a few people it was hard to focus on myself because I didn't want to rear end anyone... Especially when this one lady had a headshake about two or three bike lengths ahead of me... I braked hard and went wide and waited for the group of riders behind me to pass then went back out... It was a wake up call... I took it easy for the remainder of the session....

I had the all black 06 RR with the CT license plate, with blue tape over all the lights.... I'll check out the pics when I get home they are blocked at work...

Oh and about that guy with the Troy Bayliss Duc, he was getting help from an instructor for almost two sessions on both days. He was doing better by the end of the second day. But gotdamn that guy had some serious loot, mofo had a satelite dish in his RV and a 15 or 20 foot enclosed trailer for the two ducs....

^^^Note to Patty Cakes.... This should be next on your shopping list!

Hey!

This is Tony from TonysTrackDays.

Glad you had fun overall and kept it on two wheels.

The more you know...the better it gets.

Since Kenny was mentioned several times above (the guy with the Bayliss)... figured I would confirm.

Him and his family (wife and son) are all learning to ride better. They did their first trackday with me at the end of last year and are all hoping to improve.

Very nice family and some great people...very down to earth.

Anyway, for anyone looking to hit the track for the first time, please check us out. We cater to the first timer, all the way up to the experienced rider that wants tracktime in a safe environment.

Tony nice to meet you guys out there! Your staff and everyone else at the event was very helpful. I will definitely be back.

Oh about Kenny (the Bayliss Duc) he was doing better on the second day. The instructors stayed with him to make sure he was getting better, I thought that was great of you guys. I was just saying he has a VERY nice setup for the track, one I can only dream of.

Hey makct04,

What's your name? Maybe we met? I have a black tribal 05 with a Repsol jacket on the second day riding in yellow... next time well have to introduce ourselves!

Glad you liked it! Looks like you are getting on top of it quick!
I was really getting into the Tony's lap timing feature! It helps me to know if
something I'm trying out like later brake point or earlier harder roll on
etc helps in terms of time!

Anyway welcome to the addiction!

Definitely meng! I think I seen your bike out there while I was waiting in the hot pit waiting for your group to get off the track so we could go on.

I'm not worried about lap times at this point, I need more practice on the track.

Hey there's also alot of space I hear for Tony's Days at NJ Motorsports Park next Monday and Tuesday and the weather is looking good. If I wasn't on a family vacation then I'd be there. NJMP rocks! So fast and smooth!

Here's a link to the track map

Yeah I signed up for Monticello July 5th.

I can't do next monday/tuesday. I would love to be I gotta save my funds and spread the the trackdays out a little bit. Also, getting the days off from work is another issue within itself.

I'll probably go to NJMP during the September dates.
