Well it happened (with pics)

So... I went to SBR track day on friday - had a blast. Great organization.

But... took my first spill. A low side in turn 3. Just some scrapes and bruises and the bike is a little messed up, but nothing too serious.

Weirdly, Predikt went down in the same session (i'm sure he'll post more on that). Anyway... got a bunch of great pics and they are all on my wife's photography site (http://www.ToeKnuckle.com).

It was bound to happen... cold tires I think. Rookie mistake.

I did do some good riding too... here's me and predikt. (I'm on the red one).

Nope. No frame sliders. Completely stock. Only removed the mirrors. See below for a "after" shot. The wheel isn't bent, I just turned it right. Broken blinker, broken peg, and a whole lotta scratches.

What if it was? But no... it's not. It's a tech sticker. One green "B" group, one pink "A" group. I get to ride in both.

how were the conditions of the track? when i went last month, the course was sandy and there were potholes here and there. predkit looks like he's about to take the cone out with his knee in the pic of you guys at the skidpad. glad both of you are okay.

Yeah, glad you're okay, bro.

Predikt went down, too?!!!

For those who don't know: Turn 3's a bit weird because right after turn 2 it starts to go downhill and turn 3 is not a banked turn so you have to watch your entry speed and throttle control. But the great part about turn 3 is it's a wide turn.

+1 to BigTuna... In my experience, any time you say "Watch this!" you better have a camera on you... I mean, if you're gonna make an ass out of yourself, might as well have documentation. ;-)

What's up Moe. I'm doing good. Fortunately me and Trik didn't get hurt at all last Friday. The crash on Friday was minor. Just a bent right-side rear set.

But I went out on Sunday too at Buttonwillow and high sided, that was pretty bad. About $500 cosmetic damage to the bike and I have to get a new helmet and patch up my leathers. As I've been riding, I've been trying to get closer and closer to the paint and rumble strips on the track to get the best line. That, new tires that I'm not used to and pushing harder led to the high side. I got a small fracture on my left hand, a sprained right ankle, and a couple of scratches...but of course I'll be back on the track!!!

Doctor says 2 - 3 weeks for injuries to heal. I'm ready now :) The passion to ride is a crazy one but I love it. If anything, it teaches to be smoother and really concentrate on my line even more. No doubt that I'll progress. Anyone up for the Pahrump track early October? :)

Moe, I'm glad you're doing alright out there. I was watching the news in the Emergency Room last night about the Hurricane and you were the first person I thought about because I don't know anyone else out there. You should move to the west coast to ride the tracks out here ;) Take it easy

Hey Nemesis,
unfortunately yeah, but it was super minor and Trik and I had no injuries. That's all that matters. I knew it was only a matter of time. But I'm looking forward to getting back already. If anything, I want to ride more!

I low sided at Turn 8 at Streets of Willow last friday. New tires and my suspension settings were all wierd (or the new tires let me feel the bumps morea: Michelin Power Races), and the dip in Turn 8 all contributed to the low side. I'm glad I finally experienced it though, now I won't have to wonder what it feels like and be scared of it :)

I think you got that confused with turn 4a/4b which is the top of the omega. turn 2 is the fast right hand sweeper, then the short straight and 3 is highly banked, but goes off camber in transition to turn 4a. from the photograph, it looks like trik went down going into 3, at the end of the short straight. cold tires are likely if it was the first lap, otherwise tires are up to temp by second lap.

Glad everyone was okay. Buttonwillow highside? what corner? I was there monday.

It was turn 3 at SOW.

The bike is in reasonable shape... I think about $60 on ebay will make it rideable, I just need to accept the scratches. :( Oh well. Battle scars. I don't mind.

Right at the final turn of the esses, going on the straight. I kept on trying to get closer and closer to that inside line as well as lean harder and go faster. My rear wheel slid across the paint that's on the inside, right next to the rumble strip, and as soon as it contacted pavement, the bike flung me and flung me high. People said I bounced iff the ground pretty high too...I actually thought I lowsided, haha. That goes to show how fast and unexpected it was. I'm staying away from that paint from now on :) A knee over the rumble strip is fine.

Okay that hurt just reading it. I know what you mean by trying to hug that left for a drive onto the straight. That has to be a scary place to crash because of the speed you are going. Is it me or did they recently paint the candy stripes? I felt like I was playing Candy Cane Lane while out there. Slippery shitt!

you might have hit the raised painted area instead of just slipping on the paint. I was behind a guy on a 250 2-stroke coming into Sunset and his rear wheel clipped the raised curbing and almost flung him off. He recovered but it scared the crap out of me as I was setting him up to pass. He ended up where I would have been!

they DID recently repaint them. Every time I would come around Riverside I'd nearly get blinded by the white!
