Goin to my First Track Day Oct1...

I am going to my fist track day STT on Oct 1st. I am very excited but at the same time nervous. I will obviously be rideing with the novice group...

I just ordered Scotts steering dampner, Sato frame sliders, Shogun Bar ends, swing arm sliders/spools... and all the gear.

Any advice/pointers from you vets out there?

What PSI should i be running on my stock Michelin pilot sports at the track?

STT's novice group is a great place to do your first track day. They will break you into smaller groups, each with a control rider. Each session, you will work on a diff. skill. First session you will putt around to get familiar with the layout of the track, and the racing line. Next session you will go out and do a single gear drill where you ride the whole track in one gear (except for the straights) to get used to setting corner speed. Then, you will work on braking, and so on. The day (especially the first session) will start off slow, but by the end of the day, you will be begging for more. Don't be afraid to ask if you need any help. Most of all, don't ride over your head, be smooth, and have fun. And, welcome to the addiction.

Thanks guys for the tips and advice. I do not plan on riding over my head. Im going to take it slow and learn how its done.

any advice on coming into turns to fast/slow....

Your control rider will dictate the pace. If you feel you can go faster, then you can ask to be moved up to a faster group. Likewise, if you are slower/or missing the lines badly, you will get shuffled back to a slower/smaller group.

+2 on this. After your first track day you won't really want to ride the street anymore and feen for the track on the daily.


Some tips:

1) Ride at your own comfortable pace.
2) Realistically, I know you want to drag knee. If you try to drag knee, make sure you understand basic technique first from asking an instructor to show you.
3) I'm not sure if your street tires support agressive lean angles, Michelin Pilot Powers are an awesome track/street tire that you can get those lean angles on for the track and very durable for the street for extensive use.
4) Make sure you pack everything you need the night before and 'try' to get a good night's sleep, I never get good rest the night before :)
5) Make sure you have food and drink covered as it gets hot in the leathers and keeping your energy levels up makes you more aware.

Bring lots of water!!!!!!! Getting dehydrated is the quickest way to screw up your trackday. Drink between every session. Bananas are also good. STT usually has a basket of fruit including bananas for their trackdays, but they can disappear quick. They also provide lunch. Primarily just go out with an open mind, listen to the instructors/control riders and have fun!!!!
For tire pressure, I woul d run 28-30psi cold front and back. That should give you mid 30's hot which should be ok. The Pilot Sports should hold up resonably well for your first track day but I would not recommend them after that. At the very least get some Pilot Powers for any future track days. I have gone to the new Pirelli Super Corsas(Dragons) for the track.
