chain tightness...

i was wondering if someone could give me a general idea as to how tight my chain should be while i race? some say loose... others say tight... i thought that there should be about an inch and half of play. what do you guys think??

For the love of God be sure it isn't too tight... too many bad things happen when chains break. It should be a little loose, maybe 1.5". I usually go with just tight enough to not slap the swingarm on most bikes.
