Back from JenningsGP 11/20/2005

Well it was my first track day and all I can say is WOW!!!! I had so much fun. I will definitely be returning soon. It ended up raining in the afternoon after three dry sessions in the morning. My friends and I decided to run in the rain since we were there already and paid for the day. My new Pilot Powers held up very well, I am horoughly impressed with them, dry and wet they performed well. I did come to the conclusion that I want some fiberglass bodywork before I go back though, anyone have any recommendations. I have been looking at some stuff on e-bay for about $400 which is about what I have to spend, I have heard Sharkskinz are the best but they are a little too pricey for me. I am gonna try to play with the gearing a little probably going to 15/45 for some better acceleration. I want to do some suspension work also, but that will come after the bodywork. Anyone with any insight I would appreciate it.

Some pics for your viewing pleasure

mine is the yellow RR (obviously)

That orange RR in this pic is a .net member, tried to say hi but they werent in the paddock, if your reading this, let me know who you were

Sorry, no action pics, the guy that takes them only got like 2 of me and they sucked so I didnt buy any.

great pics man, i love jennings. hopefully next time you can get some action shots. I hear that the 15/45 is great for jennings, but my sprockets havnt come in yet so i couldnt tell ya first hand. but i would recommend getting brake mods (steel lines, EBC Pads, Motul Racing Brake Fluid) a steering damper, and getting your suspension work done, because thats whats going to make YOU faster.

yeah, 15/45 is good for jennings. I would recommend a dot race compound tire if you are going faster than maybe 1:35 at that track.........cheap insurance. Jennings is a blast, isn't it?

SquidKid:
Yeah I think I am gonna invest in some diff. gearing, need some more low end. I already have a steering damper but I do plan on upgrading the brakes.

Racer873:
Bright bike you have there, def. stands out in the crowd. I went down to say hi cause I saw the .net sticker on your bike but you werent there. I was going to ask you a few questions about your set up on your bike. I was wondering what kind of fairings you are running and how well they fit? What kind of tires you run and at what pressure?

Moeman:
Yes, I am addicted

mx510:
Oh yeah, Jennings is a great time! What brand of tire would you recommend? Pilot race? I am not sure what lap times I was running, but I think I have some more work to do before I am in the low 1:30 's range

I am still in the market for some bodywork so if anyone has any input I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Rowski

I like the dunlops. Truthfully, pirelli, michelin, dunlop are all good........just different feel for each. I am a firm believer in race tires for the race track. I hear a lot of good things about these in between track day tires until the guy lands on his head. All tires feel good until they slide, so as soon as your skill level exceeds what the pilot powers are going to give for grip........you'll be needing a dot race tire. I have about 4000 miles around jennings....pretty much where i ride, I love that place.

I might have a contact to buy Pilot Race take offs locally. I might jump on it when I feel the need. I have become a fan of Michelin lately since I started using the powers, used to run only Dunlops till then. I agree Jennings is awesome, I will def. try to frequent that place. Are you running aftermarket bodywork, if so what kind and how did it fit?

Thanks,

RowskiRR, I was running 1:31's on pilot power street tires with no problems. Those tires are awsome! i heard some guys running 1:26's on the same tires but I would never push a street tire that far. thats just asking for disaster. As for the bodywork, i am using Hotbodies. Quality and fitment really sucked. i can't complain though, at Biktoberfest they were selling for $375. for setup, I set up the sag, used same suspension setting as on the street and everything on the bike is bone stock for now.

don't know who exactally. Some friends of mine from clearwater and Tennessee were there the 13th and 14. I know some of those Tenn boys were naturals on the track. It makes me kinda jealous cause i'm slow and I've done several trackdays in the past. lol

Jan. sounds like a good return date for me also. Between the Holidays and acquiring some bodywork for the bke I cant see myself getting back before then.

Squidkid: those are some sick times on street tires, I think I need some more track time before I have to worry about it but I will def. be switching to track tires when the time comes, I dont wanna end up on my ass.

That whole thing with the guy who passed away makes me nervous, the corner workers should be more aware of whats going on. Because of that I dont think ill ever go with out a friend, rider or non-rider. That way if I dont return after a session it wont be three sessions later that I am found.

yup ill be out there jan too... i know some people from around here on the board that would like to go in jan, we could get a little group thing of rr's up there... honestly, the track marshalls are great, thats a one in a million of that happening. Yea i know i was pushing kind of hard, lots of the people including the track marshalls told me i was pushing it really hard on street tires. my second lap of a session i would be able to get into the 1:24's, but then fall off into the 1:26's-1:27's by the 4th lap because those tires were slipping EVERYWHERE, till finally i lost the front end at turn 3, it could have been a lot worse, heh... a track marshall said i could go to expert with my times, but didnt recommend it because of my lack of exirence. He told me to go into inter. as long as i didnt try to kill anybody, lol.

Those are some quick times Squidkid, I need to get a lap timer so I have a reference to know if I am really getting any faster and to know when switching to track tires would be a good idea. It would be nice to get a small group of RR's there in Jan., preferably in the beginning before school starts up again. Some of those guys in expert are really quick, I was on the track last weekend with some of them because it was an open track when the rain started, and a couple of the guys were on rain tires and holy crap did they blow by me.

i have shark skinz, but i dont plan on crashing anymore. yea lets schedule something for jan with the RR's, we'll do a post. If you dont have a lap time by the next time you go out there, ask one of the marshalls to time you, thats what i did, or borrow one, thats also what i did. i need to get a lap timer too.
