Here are a couple pics from Streets of Willow 12/10 and 12/11 on the R1.
Amazing weekend with great weather, and once the tires and track warmed up a great time to be back at the track.

Hope you enjoy....

Thanks.... I have been thinking about racing, but I had a get off this summer pushing it at a trackday, and I'm trying to have fun in that 80% range for awhile. It's much less stressfull than being as late on the brakes as you can as 30 other guys trade paint to get in there.....

Hats off to you guys who have the discipline though.

Blackice - Just takes practice... I am no where near as fast as the 13 year old that was turning 1:27s all day on a 125. But, I have a great time exploring my limits.... stay with it and with a couple trackdays, you'll be looking like Rossi.

Best,
Brian

Sweet! By the video, I figure your second lap was about a 1:40. Does that sound about right?

Cool!

I was there on Saturday (Sport group). According to my laptimer, I did a bunch in the 1:40 range, and towards the end of the day, I turned a bunch of 1:38's and a 1:35.37 when I got a clean lap without much traffic.

You definitely look smoother than I do, though.:icon_salu

Thanks guys.... back on my 600RR, I was in the 1:36s pretty comfortably... still getting used to the R1, but I'm having a great time out there. I found that when I chased lower times, that I was finding myself off line and slower. When I just concentrated on nailing my entrance and exit lines, the times started to drop.
After the expense and injury this summer, I'd be happy running with the B+ groups and keeping it shiny for awile.

Thanks again for the support!

It's aways a humbling experience when a 125 rockets by... For me, on a big bike, it lets me know that I can go faster, and when I'm on my 125, it tells me that they were going way too slow... :toothy12:

Typcial big bike riding style, but still, you're looking good out there. So are you thinking about racing yet?

It's quick, not the fastest or the slowest.... right between the sport and race group.
Quick enough to enjoy dragging knees through all but a few turns.

Mule - Actually, Streets Of Willow is the tightest track I've ever been to (Reg Pridmore says the tightest in the states), so I was very pleased to keep corner speeds up through the turns that I could. I believe the track record is actually held by an SV650! I couldn't believe the line that 125 was able to take setting up the skidpad. I'll be looking for him at Buttonwillow and California speedway though - probably a different story with longer front straights and fast sweepers.

Thanks again for the compliments....

Brian

I'm not sure what the norm is, but I believe that the track record is something like a 1:19.

Racers are from another planet! All of them.
Any jar head may be able to learn one track and lace it together and be quick.
But, to do it in competition, on several tracks, with other bikes fighting for the line is another story.

Hats off to anyone with a number plate on their bikes and the mojo to compete.

Hmm...Well...I know that the last time I was at the Superbike School at Streets (back in April), the school's mechanic Will Eikenberry still held the record at Streets. I might be wrong about the specifics, but I'm pretty sure it was in the 1:1X range. I'll see if I can find out.

That's Streets of Willow. Will's record was 1:17 something.

But they are talking about the Big Track at Willow Springs, not Streets of Willow (smaller, and more technical track)

1:17...OK, I knew it was in that range.

And unless I'm really confused (which has been known to happen from time to time), we're talking about laptimes at Streets of Willow. The pics and videos posted are from Streets. The only time the big track was mentioned was in ibvosko's post.

Strees is probly the worst/ best track i've been to.
It sucks cuz it's bumpy as hell but I had so much fun cuz its a small track with a millions turns in it. I would have to say the best turns are 3 and the bowl (that **** was nuts).

Well the pics look great and hope to see you out there in Feb or March

Thumbs up

Nice pics! You were in the sport group right? I was on the all silver RR. In one of the mid sessions I was hounding you and after like 2-3 laps you let me by on the back straight before the chicane. Didn't know why, but it was fun chasing you.
Nice bike BTW. Maybe we can dice it up at another trackday. :)
