Had my first trackday at Barber in Birmingham

I hate that I waited for the last day of the season as now I'm hooked. Had a great time even though my form is absolutely awful. Really glad to have pictures of it so I can see what needs work. Was one of the slower novice riders but kept the rubber side down so pretty happy about that.

Consistency and feel are what's most important about your initial outings; repetition will build speed and uncover future flaws, but you don't have to worry about that until it's time. Edging towards your limits on each lap is what builds skill.

You look fine for your first day, the only specific advice I would give is to pull your inside foot back; you'll start to drag your toes which is no good.

Comparing pictures of yourself against pictures of other riders at same points on the course can be very helpful.

Thanks. Already ordered a set of (used) track fairings so I'll be doing lots of sanding/painting over the winter while I wait for the spring season.

Thanks for the input and tips. I am definitely sitting more upright and on top of my bike than most folks. Need to sit further back, tuck more and hang off of it better. That'll come with time. Had a ~20mph cross wind all day so it was honestly hard just holding my head up through the elevation changes etc with the small degree of tuck I managed. Gotta strengthen my neck muscles too. My entire body was sore the next day!

And on a purely cosmetic choice, I love the gear you're wearing. Which Sidi's? I need to get some real track boots, just been wearing my Sidi Cobra Rain boots.

Thanks man. They're the STs. Unfortunately I've grown out of my Dainese suit. Need to find a size up but they're discontinued as of like 2 years ago. Gonna be a tough find, but there basically aren't any other black/fluorescent yellow quality suits out there. Here is a better pic of the gear:

Yeah I only rode Saturday too. I'm local so it was no big deal to only go one day. I was pretty blown away by how nice the facilities and track all are.

Any idea what the cost is going to be? It appears you guys and Barber agreed to be the only track organization able to do track days there in 2015.

Yea I am also interested on hopefully a lower price than your previous years because I love barber but being $50+ higher than what X-Act was is steep.

Bamascoot,

I was there Saturday as well, I had the Redbull CBR600rr in Novice.
I would recommend hitting up Jennings while it warms up everywhere else.

I went on the 3rd to Jennings and wow it was great. Made my bump to Intermediate that day too

Thanks man. I had some checkered duct tape laying around so figured why not? Should've pulled fuse too but oh well.

I think X-Act is still talking to Barber about getting track days. Maybe not but that's what I inferred from their latest facebook post. X-Act hasn't released their schedule yet.

Nice! I'll look for you next time out there. As for Jennings it's about 400 miles away so... I may be waiting til the trackdays come to me. Love having Barber in my backyard!

At the present time, the STT website is being updated......backend software and such, so no info available as far as track day info, being able to purchase T.D.s, etc. From what I understand, pricing will not be increased over the previous year. Hopefully the site will be back up soon.

Just saw that STT is indeed a monopoly on track time at Barber this year. Damn. Their pricing is like $60 higher per day than XAct.

Yea I really hope STT reduces its Barber Price.
A lot of people prefer X-act because of a more "Friendlier and Family" feeling, I dont currently hold a preference.
Although I dont hold a preference, if the price stays as high as it is, I will definitely not be attending half as many barber days I would of otherwise

Forgive me, for I have sinned. I knew having a lowered bike wasn't great on the track but I had no idea how really bad it was. Bought my bike lowered and will be getting it back to standard height this weekend. That has to account for some of my inability to go fast. I felt like I was having to lean way too far for my relatively low speed, come to find out... I was. Should be able to rip around Barber much better in March.

Hah. My local setup shop tells me part of their 600RR recipe is actually raising the bikes a bit, to get them closer to R6 height. So yeah, having a lowered bike is gonna make things weird.

I just paid for my first track days this March 7th and 8th (Jennings Southern Trackdays). I'm super excited. Just gotta save up for a suit and some boots. Also maybe a new lid.
Any thoughts on the AGV K3 Helmets? I'm currently looking at this one, for that price and awesome design I figure why not.

I... sort of really don't like them! I think they may be a design from before AGV was bought by Dainese; some of those earlier helmets were pretty poor and their internal headshapes are very strange. I prefer Scorpion and Icon over the entry level AGV helmets. AGV higher end stuff is nice though (GP-Tech, Corsa)

Awesome, thanks for the input. I know when it comes to helmets there are so many different factors and just because you didn't exactly prefer it doesn't mean someone else is the same. I guess I'll just have to find a store that carries them and hopefully get to try one on. It's just for that price you really can't be upset. Ill definitely take a look at the newer Scorpion and Icon helmets though.

The XL AGV K3 fits me really well. Guess I have a "very strange" head shape.

My one complaint is there isn't quite enough chin room. If I hit the chin bar really hard with my hand it touches my chin. Don't want broken teeth/jaw so will be looking for something else for the track. Or may just use my rf1100.
