fader's ongoing trackbike thread(picheavy)

as much as i crash it, i figured i might as well start a thread for this poor bike. plus track season is in full swing and i have lots of plans for this '03 so instead of being a real build thread, it will just be a diary for my bike, since it goes thru so much trauma.

after my get off this past weekend, and having over a month till my next TD, it is time for some repairs, and maintenance. below are a few pics of what i did this morning to assess damages. i think i got off pretty easy. looks like a few tweaks and rashes. what worries me is the radiator, because it looks twisted to me. i haven't started it yet, simply because i believe dirt entered the airbox and i haven't gotten that far into tearing it apart. once i clean that out, i'll start it and get it up to temp to see if it holds water. if it does then i should be golden. you can see that the brembo got rashed and moved around a bit, hurts my feelings, but there's still pressure when i pumped the lever a few times. hopefully after a repositioning, and a flush and bleed, everything will be ok there. my cheap, eghey, plain, delrin sliders have really done a nice job thru three get offs. one pretty gnarly one even.

this year, i have some ideas. definitely want to go keyless, cap and switch, woodcraft case protection, new chain kit(can't decide on gearing), 05-06 track body work with my own custom scheme, the list goes on.
damages to repair: new grips, new throttle cables, sliders, front stay looks bent to hell, and it's that junk oem metal, so i don't even know if i can persuade it back into position without breaking it or not. i'll need the little plastic plug for a vortex bar end. i'll add to the thread as i remember other things.

please comment and give me ideas, cause i'm always open to suggestions, although i have a vision of what i want the bike to be. it's already pretty sweet IMHO now onto the pics, in case you have never seen and 03 CBR600RR before:

here it is at the beginning of the season.

Its always so fun looking at other people's build because it motivates you to do it yourself until your actually doing it and find out it's a pain in the ass. Keep it up man.

You've got some work stored ahead, but seems like it will be fun. How does the video look with the gopro attached to the swingarm like that? First time I've seen that.

that view is pretty cool IMO. cant post up any for you for another month or so. i lost all my footage from that angle when a HD took a poop on me. :sadface i also had some footage down low looking forward where you could see the fork travel and brakes squeezing while looking sown the road. pretty sick. lately ive just been running my camera on the nose. i need to switch it up more IMO.

anywho, i started the keyless ignition and it's finished except for the final mount of the switch. i think i need a flat piece of carbon fiber. something i could possibly cut and sand to shape and drill a few holes to mount it to the top triple and then mount the switch in it? is this possible? what do you guys think i should do here? i am really open to suggestions on this part of the project cause i'm kind of at a loss. here's a few pics of what i did so far:

i used this writeup to prepare myself for the job, https://www.600rr.net/vb/showthread.php?t=212488 but very quickly found out my switch need to wired with a diode in order to send the proper voltage to the fuel pump. on first try i had lights and starter with the new switch but no fuel pump so i just decided i would gank the diode off the bottom of the OEM ignition switch:

after some really tedious soldering, cause that thing is tiny and it was difficult to get it soldered into the cut OEM harness for the ig. switch. here's what i ended up with, soldered and heat shrunk:

I would use a aluminum sheet and cut it to shape. Use a cardboard as a template, trace it out and transfer it to a aluminum sheet.

and then here's what i don't like. this is where i think a nice flat piece of carbon fiber shaped to fit this area is the way to go. what do you think?

and this is ideally where the switch would mount once some sort of delete plate is there...

really stoked! i have my keyless gascap ordered, 05-06 air ducts ordered(thanks infinite) and found a full set of mint track fiberglass on CL for cheap. hope to have that in my hands by the weekend.

on a totally unrelated note, the street bike has new sprockets installed and eagerly awaiting a chain that is also on order and should arrive by midweek. just need to stop by my buddies shop and get a tire swapped and i will be on two wheels whenever i feel like it. :frantic

here's how it sits right now. put 05 fairings on it. got a steal off of CL, they are cheapies, but i DGAF. i will def be painting these up just not sure when. still figuring out where to route the tail harness for the best fitment for the bodywork. it's all just dry fit for now, not even attached. WHITE!!!!! :frantic i'm excited. been wanting to go white and black for a while. kinda using this photoshop as an example:

i'll do all my own decals right here. wanna PC the front wheel and then do a black wheel stripe on the front and white stripe on the rear. thanks to white07cbr for doing this photoshop for me. i planned on leaving the tail mostly white and having my trackday buds graffiti it with black sharpie. then i'll clear coat over everything.
