Removed heat sheild? Question

A while back when I baught a slip on I took off the stock heat sheild near your right leg. I wrapped it to solve he heat problem and looks. Well back then I jerry rigged the stock heat sheild by trimming it so it only covered the catalytic coverter and painted it. Well today I decided it would look better with no heat sheild and painted the cat black. It looks great but after a ride I noticed the plastic near the cat got fairly hot. I am curious if anyone had had issues with melting or paint discoloration due to the heat? I am contemplating on putting some heat tape on that area of the plastic to see if that helps any. Suggestions anyone and or experiances? Thanks

I'd wrap the cat in tape at the least - those things get damn hot and that's how they work. Best not to risk your fairings. If you had aftermarket they would have probably melted by now.

I spoke with another member who had his off for 7500 miles no problems. Thanks for the heads up however. I did put some foam tape on the inside of the fairing to keep some heat away just to be cautious

Mine's been good so far. Although, my Black Label's melted to my exhaust (baggy riding pants = FAIL)...

Just installed an MBRP Slip-on and I have around 200 miles on it now.
I took off all the heat shield parts and I have had no problem.
Also, I was stuck in traffic today for about 45 mins.
Creeping around 5-10mph and again, no problems.

I would try heat tape (that silver stuff) on the inside of the plastic.
Might solve your problem with out having to wrap the cat..

I think that would like ****.. Personally

Shouldn't be a problem, for some precautions I would put some heat tape around your fairings because that is something you don't want to have to replace
