Running lean or rich problem? Help

So, many already helped me with this prob which i first thought was electrical.. Checked kill switches grounds ect.. If you read my thread "rpm drops" to begin with i have a akra slip on an k&n filter no power commander or anything hooked up to my ecu.. Well anyways my bike seems to vibrate more than usual at times and sometime it seems to be weak at accelerating.. And the main prob was the rpms drops/jerking while riding.. Sat in traffic engine temp was over 200 got off to frontage road and opened her up at around 9 k rpms i think 4 gear 70-80mphs she started jerking released the the throttle went into a lower gear (did this couple of time) kept her on low rpms and rode the rest of the way home fine..so it has to be something with air flow/fuel.. So whats my next step? Power commander?

To the guys (Nico, Tary, Fightingchance and others) on my other thread (rpm drops) if you guys are ever in Chicago i owe you guys a drink. Lol made this new thread to eliminate the confusion from what i thought was electrical issues and to be more clear..

Have a look at the following post from my build thread and more specifically the top Dynojet chart indicating Air-Fuel Ratio.

https://www.600rr.net/vb/showpost.php...&postcount=210

I originally had an Akrapovič slip-on and K&N air filter fitted and prior to fitting a PCV my CBR was running very lean between 4-13,000 rpm. Some may advocate that a PCV is not a worthwhile investment but that's their prerogative. Whilst it is not always necessary to install one a simple power run on a Dyno will enable you to check whether it is actually required. By conducting a power run it will allow you to check the Air-Fuel Ratio and identify any outstanding issues. For me the installation of a PCV and subsequent mapping ensured that throttle response was improved significantly and my fuelling issue was addressed.

litho....listen to Ry6rr. ( he is from the highest levels of the sport, has top info).....even God asks for his opinion occasionally!

based on Akra s/o and K&N......your throttle issue sounds like what I was not liking about my setup.

I would also say a PC5 and a good tune is next, that is what I did ....but the tune still gave abrupt on/off/on responses at 5-8krpm.

I had the luck to read a dynarex thread that addressed this issue.

contacted the guy mentioned in the thread (Jeffo).......and now have a wonderfully smooth bike......worth every $ (and more!)

ps lived in Chicago......Love that city....

Thanks.. So whats the main difference between pc3 and pc5?? And this guy jeffo what did he do, and is there a way that i can contact him? I just want this issue solved i hate riding and not being confident on my own bike.. Can it be that one of my cylinders not working?? Just from car experience i know if one of them is out it shakes and loses power?? Or is it just the lean/rich thing?

I just dont wanna spend close to 300 on a pcv and find out that its not the prob.. And are there any vendors or anyone selling them cheaper? I heard buying a used one can be risky ..

Before you spend any money on a PCV and associated mapping go to your local Dyno Centre and request a power run. This will help you identify any problems and can be done very cheaply and quickly.

i just contacted Chicago performance and win racing waiting for them to call me back with prices.. I thought pcv already comes with special maps do I still need the custom tune done to it?

PCV are bike specific but do not come with mapping preloaded. Generic mapping is available on the Dynojet website which you can download for free and then send to the PCV. Simply scroll down the listed maps for your make and model of bike and select the one suitable for your set-up. The generic mapping is fine but nothing beats custom mapping bespoke for your individual bike.

In my honest opinion you will get far more benefit out of a PCV and mapping than you will from upgraded lights. Before, and if, you purchase a PCV I would still have a power run conducted to try and address your original problem. You will then be in a far better decision making position after that.

Given that your in the US, and if post-power run you need a PCV, try contacting some of the site vendors on here and they will probably be able to supply you with one at a cheaper price than those quoted. The other alternative is to buy a used one but just make sure it is the correct model for your bike and before fitting make sure you reset it to clear any mapping stored within it.

That's a good start. Hopefully now you should have enough information to make an informed decision on what to do next.

litho......there is not a short, quick and cheap solution.....

initial power run shows you where problem is.

pc5 can be adjusted to compensate for increased air flow and smoother throttle response and optimises hp/trq.....

dyno map is made for your bike on Mapping run, which takes some time.......

initial power run can be skipped, but if you are not happy with the map generated during mapping run, it can be hard to say " i need you to do a little more work to make a smoother throttle response" later if you are not happy with throttle response.....etc.

jeffo is owner of F.A.I.C a tuning center in SW USA......when you paypal him $50 he emails you a (good!) pc5 map, and a 1 page sheet of instructions that takes about 15 minutes of work on your pc5 using a laptop.... I will not tell more, as I think he offers good value, and i want to support people who make a good product....

I am well satisfied......I have a very smooth throttle now at the 5-8k rpm range....

i will try to dig up his contact info

$250 is cheap for a tune. Around here it is $300 for one, still worth it to have the bike running right. I just got mine done and it feels smooth.

Hey Tary so with Jeffo i would not need to do the special tune or would i still have to get a custom map done and then he upgrades that one?? Or once i get my pcv send him email pay him and he will provide a special map based on what i have?

you do not absolutely have to have a dyno run after you load the map he will supply.....but it is a good idea.......( not a full map/tune, just a power run)

the map he sends you s/b a pretty good fit, but may need minor tweaks to be perfect for your bike......mine was very good...... if you find an area that needs tweaking, I believe you can ask Jeffo to mod the map....he is easy to work with..... and prompt!

yes, my bike had no issues except abrupt throttle response as mentioned above....

Jeffo's suggestions, and map fixed that issue.
