Seperating the RS-5 can from the midpipe?

I have a 2005 with the yoshimura slip on and midpipe. I want to take the actual exhaust off, and(just for fun) make my own exhaust that fits over the yoshi midpipe. For some reason though, I can't seperate the can from the midpipe. I removed the springs and tried to pull the two apart, but cant seem to do it. On my dirtbikes and fourwheelers and my older sv, the can slipped off easily once you remove the springs. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

***FYI it is the older version of the RS-5 that has the ugly spout coming out of the can, if that helps at all

Haha yeah I removed the strap. The hole midpipe would wiggle when I tried to separate the can
