Converting Stock to a Free flowing exhaust

So yesterday i was bored and at my buddies house (hes been riding for years now) and we were talkin about custom exhausts and about how im broke and cant get one for a while.

He tells me: "why dont you just punch through the metal plate between the pipe and outlet, cuz i guarentee it'll sound like a hundred times better than stock cuz i did it on my old crotch rocket"

I know stock exhausts are cheap as hell on e-bay so i take his word for it and cut a pipe (about the opening of the nozzle wide) at a 45 degree angle on one side (to make one end pointy) and hammer it through the metal compression chamber (note to self, if youre gonna do this have a buddy sit on the bike so it doesnt tip)...

Then i held my breath and started her up...
IT SOUND ****** AWSOME!!!

Broke pepole of the world rejoyce...
we can have slip on sound for free:01_thumbu

But being kinda mechanically inclined i have to ask:
Does anyone know if this can have any negative side-effects?
My buddy states that hes sure it wont cuz esentially its the same concept as a slip-on.. Is he right?

What size pipe did you use? Was it some type of metal pipe? How did you cut the pipe?

Any pipe that fits through the rear opening will do..

I have an 03 so my outlet is round, so i just used a peice of a metal water pipe from his garage..

It doesnt matter how you cut it just as long as it has a sharp point on one side, just make sure its long enough so u can get a good grip on it to pull it back out...

The sound quality is kick ass, and worst case senario you can get a new stock exhaust for like 25 bucks on ebay if u dont like it... i love mine tho, best free mod ever

I did this a few months ago and I l;ike the way it sounds...has alot deeper sound then stock and it was free!!!

just get a long 1inch drill bit and drill a hole ...see how you like the sound...if one hole isnt enough, drill another, and so on.

I have 4 holes in mine and it sounds pretty damn good.

theres a thread that shows drilling the can out from the bottom but I dont like that idea...I just stuck a drill bit down the exhast and did it that way.

I did this to mine too... I think there's about 6 or so threads on it already but... whatever.

I used a long punch and ended up opening up that baffle far enough that you can't even see the baffle anymore.

I just picked up a micron dual outlet tho so I'll be putting that on soon.

Cheers,

i know some people here that fully gutted the stock pipe.... sounds good actually but they took alot of time doing it. cutting out the welds and stuff. it looks kind of different too.

What happens if the metal chips and peices fall into the exhaust? That doesn't sound too healthy for a bike.

the title of this should be "how to destroy an exhaust pipe and the engineering that was put into it and gain no real performance all for sound" (not even a good sound imo)

sorry to the people who have also done this but ive heard a sound clip and it sounds like the million and a half POS cars driving around with huge stupid mufflers

I'll take the usage of "kinda" lightly here

I took an old speargun shaft and a hammer and poked about 10 1/4 in holes in the plate that u can see down in the muffler. It took a about a day and the ECU seemed to have adjusted for the extra flow, it went up to 102.26 hp. The only other mod it the metal screen is torn off the stock airfilter. Not bad for an 03 BONE stock motor. I was told that the ECU could do a little compensating, guess that is what happened. -EZ

this shouldn't hurt anything because there is no way for them to get into the engine. they should blow out when the bike gets started if not when they get on it. the only down side i could would be large chips that could get hung or rattle. but all in all that shouldn't happen. never the less to each his own. personally i went the two bros route.

I love that "banned" roll-on animated avatar :) Too funny for those losers who couldn't cooperate with everyone on here. You gotta do something pretty dumb to get banned it seems... the admins/owners/mods seem very tolerant.

Cheers,

Oh and the owners/admins/mods also seem to be very smart, nice, generous, loving, wise and exceptional people who I admire a great deal I might add. (please don't ban me)

Cheers,
