Exhaust questions and Recommendations.

Hello, still new to the forums. I have a few questions about exhaust in general. Right now I'm running the stock exhaust on my 2003 CBR 600RR and my mileage is pretty horrible. Unfortunately (Other than my being a new rider) the previous owner in a low dollar attempt at making the exhaust louder took a punch and hammer to the muffler.

Now to the point, I was curious if this was killing my fuel mileage and power due to the loss of back pressure(Term check) in the muffler?

For the second part of this question, I'm looking into aftermarket exhausts I'm leaning towards Two Brothers M-2 Exhausts , though I did spy some dual exhausts which sparkle pretty good with me. I'm just looking for a lower exhaust note (As well as the obvious additional horsepower and torque).

I'll be popping up to the exhaust stickie thread after I post this to read into them deeper.

Thank you.

I don't think that would be affecting gas mileage but good god what a ghetto thing to do. I'd be worried about other 'mods' the previous owner has done.

Slipons don't make more power, they're for looks and sound. Any one is as good as another though you can find a few threads around here about Two Bros pipes that have disintegrated in one way or another.

Yeah the holes in the muffler really do absolutely nothing, maybe a slightly louder idle, but at speed there is very little change.

Other than lowering it slightly, and raising the idle.(Which I now lowered back to stock) I haven't found much other in the way of performance changing. Everything else seems to be cosmetic. I'm probably going over it with a fine tooth comb once I get a free day. Motorcycles got about 18500 miles on it so I'm also tossing up poor mileage due to a older engine.

And Sweet thanks, I'll do a few forum searches here and see what I turn up.

I wouldn't consider 18k an huge amount of miles on a bike, check your air filter. It may be lowering your mpg. I have a CF two brothers slip on and It sounds great, sticks out farther than I would like but nothing too bad.

Sweet, I'll check out the air filter over the weekend, and yeah. I was liking the lower note of the Two brothers, I've been told Yoshimura's sound pretty nice to. Just about looking at the gains I guess. I'm not overly picky, just anything to replace my torn up stock muffler.

As FightingChance suggested, stay away from Two Brothers, I have a Black Series Carbon Fibre, looks alright and makes a great sound, but the quality isn't good, even though nothing bad has happened to mine, there are a number of documented cases where the mufflers sheared and flew into orbit. Not worth the headache.

If you want performance go for a full system - Akrapovic is my recommendation
If you want aesthetics/sound - I recommend Akrapovic, Arrow or Mivv.

Thank you for the advice,. I'll look into the Akrapovic, I'll definitely read a lot more into the Two Brothers quality issues if I decide to still go that route. I had spied a exhaust called D&D Dual Slip-On and it made me drool a tad.

I was looking at Yosh's, though the D&D Twin is heavily drawing my eye. I'll probably make the decision later on today.

Edit: After numerous videos, and reviews. I decided on the D&D, hopefully it'll come through with out to many problems.

Edit edit:Website lied no pipes the search continues.

I don't think that is affecting your mpg more so than your back pressure. Maybe a minor loss of performance

No idea what mine is, was on the bike when I bought it, does sound nice though. I believe @nico had a similar one.
