MPG decrease after installing Slip on and PCIII

Hey, just interested to know if any of you-all experienced a rather large decrease in miles per galon after installing your PCIII and slipon? I'm looking at like 20 or 30 miles less per tank since doing the install. I haven't had it dyno'd and custom mapped yet. Smack dab in the middle of buying a house. So spending money on the cycle right now, the woman will have my ballz.... Any way, if there's another thread out here for this, toss me a link and I'll check it out.

sometimes bike run lean from the factory and when you add the pc it puts the fuel curve closer to where it is suppose to be. how long have you had it installed. i know when i put my pc on i noticed a dip in my fuel milage but thats because i had a tendancy to twist the gas a little farther so that i could feel if the pc smoothed out the motor

I've had it installed for a couple weeks. Maybe you're right. I've been gettin on it a little bit since having it installed, but I don't think any more so then before : ) throttle junky..... if you know what I mean... hahahaha

It's normal. Most bikes will run richer after a pipe. But I would think that bikes are conservatively rich from the factory not lean. If the factories tried to run them lean they take the chance of burning up the motor so they tend to error on the safe side by running them a little rich. Add a pipe and it gets even richer. Especially in the lower portion of the curve.

yep, the problem is, that the pc isn't a magical box you add on and bingo, you're sweet. The map in your pc is giving too much fuel for your bike. Once you get it mapped, it will use LESS FUEL than it did stock. Have fun

I have not rode my bike enough with my PC yet to determine if infact I am losing MPG but I do know Dynojet's site states an INCREASE in MPG, so that is strange...

That's because they know the manufacturers put the bikes out conservatively rich overall and they are basing that statement on you getting it custom mapped. The manufactureres don't have time to dyno tune each ECU coming off the floor so some spots are too rich and some are too lean. Most of the time when you add a pipe the low-end is rich, which is where most people notice it sitting in the garage or at the light.

i learn something here every now & then, i didn't know that our bikes are programmed to run a bit richer, maybe that's why our RR's have bad fuel economy.

It's not limited to just our bikes. All manufacturers do that. Ours are lower because we bought a race bike.

Thats what happend w/ mine. I was leaving work letting the bike warm up and a friend comes up ( hes got a TL 1000 ) and says.... Smell's like its running rich...

I can get 45-46 MPG out of a tank now, Id like to see what its like if it was not running so rich down low. How much is a PCIII and cost to get the bike maped?

will adding a K&N or BMC air filter help cure the problem? i have noticed my bike running rich at idle too, exhaust smells like unburned gas. anybody here running a slip-on & airfilter without PC?

That's DAMN good mpg on an RR my friend. Check your math one more time.

The PCIII and tuning will probably run you a little over $500 for both depending on where you get them. Some shops will give you a discount on the PC if you get the mapping done by them. Install will be their labor rate if you don't want to do it. It's not very hard though.

Well like I said, it is all dependent on whether or not it is mapped properly. You can't just put a pc on your bike, load a map into it, (with that map causing it to use more fuel than what your bike needed) and expect to get an increase in fuel economy. The pc is just a tool to allow you to acheive a better air/fuel ratio, aqnd if it ain't set uop right, it won't do that, simple.
