2006 lower engine crank case problems

I ordered a 2006 lower engine crank case on ebay cause i needed to replace mine on my 600rr after flipping my bike last summer going about 70 or 80kph trying to wheelie. got the case was in great condition and was identical to the one on the bike and put it back together on the bike and everyting went smoothly until I tried to put the oil pick up strainer from my old crank case in it but was too big around so tried a 05 pick up strainer and no dice either. the numbers on the new/used crank case match the one on my old one, just wondering if anyone has ever heard of this problem, have rigged up a way for the strainer to stay up till the base pan went on the base pan holds it in place but not sure if i wanna risk it, anyone know why this is happening.
