Marijuana

Just curious. Who thinks it should be legal, or why its good for it to be illegal?

I'm a die hard conservative (sorry!) and even I think it should be legal for personal use on private property. It's immensely expensive to find and prosecute people who buy or use weed. It's absolutely everywhere as well so all of the preventative measures are obviously not working. Not to mention that it really harms society a lot less than some legal drugs (alcohol and tobacco).

Legalize it, tax the hell out of it, and get the law out of our goddamn homes.

All of this coming from someone who has never used it and never wants to.

i think we would be able to effectively prevent other more serious crims if we didn't put so much money into this one. i think over the counter drugs and alcohol are way more harmful. i don't know anyone that has od'ed on weed, but i know people that have tried to kill themselves with tylenol...

Treat it the same as alcohol, same laws & such and I'd say its good to go.

So many people smoke it as it is, and its so played out through the entertainment biz(movies, music, even tv shows) I can't believe it hasn't already been legalized.

Pot is actually safer then alcohol. When have you ever seen someone get angry when they're high?

The country could make so much money by taxing pot and giving selling permits to dealers, which they'll be able to afford easily, especially with the added profits of their sales because it's now legal.

no i love my booze, but yes i drank before i smoked pot first.
legalize it, many people can only smoke w/o having to try other REAL drugs.

i miss smoking, but my friends do say im a better person now and more like my old partying self before i just smoked all day long. but man my alcohol consumption sure has gone way up since quiting 3 months ago.

To those of you that say it is a gateway drug: Almost all of the pot smokers I know have never touched anything else and have no desire to. You can easily kill yourself with coke, heroin, ecstasy, LSD, etc. not to mention they are physically addictive (like nicotine).

It is effectively impossible to overdose on pot (you'd have to smoke 1/3 of your body weight at the same moment....see http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Can_you_ov...uana_if_so_how) and it is not physically addictive, which makes it entirely different from most drugs. Not to mention that it doesn't give a hangover like alcohol and is effective for treating some diseases (who ever heard of alcohol being the CURE for a disease!).

Again, I'd never use it and have no desire to, but I do think the US government is making a big mistake by spending BILLIONS to prevent it instead of earning BILLIONS by making it legal and taxing it.

ok, i believe in the fact that people have the right to ruin their own lives by doing drugs. If they are dumb enough to do it then they should be not allowed to do get welfare since I am not paying for them to sit on their butt and get high and also they should be allowed to go nowhere in their lives.
Yes it is adictive (a proven fact that you do have withdrawl symtoms) and also i believe that an employer should be allowed to not allow his employees to smoke it.

"Mar-ij-ua-na ia every where where was you brought up?"

I no longer think the if is a factor, I believe its a when. So long as the government gets to tax it many wont have a problem with it.

1) its a lot safer driving stoned then driving drunk!!
2) I have never seen an angry person that smoked weed, whereas there are lots of angry drunks!
3) i think its safer than alcohol

I don't see how some guys here say marijuana ruins your life, it doesn't make decisions for you or chose your path in life. You do.

I guess I must have smoked too much to understand the logic of how a plant ruins someone's life.

Also I don't agree its a gateway drug, its still your choice to partake in other drugs. I've never even smoked cigarettes after smoking marijuana or done any other drug.

As far as addictive, I can quit anytime. I've quit for 8 years, and picked it back up after a honeymoon in Jamaica and thought to myself where the hell have I been the past 8 years?!!!

The positives overweigh the negatives, and theres been a study that smoking marijuana actually prevents lung cancer.

My thoughts are everything on this Earth is here for a purpose. Its not chemically enhanced, changed, or produced...its straight off the vine so enjoy it people!!!

it significantly slows down the thought process of some, and they do stupid things, or others smoke so much of it, that they are forever broke, and screw them selves out of house and home

And you say the "positives out weight the negatives" ... what truly positive comes from smoking weed? its not like its a vitamin supliment.

From first hand experience and what I've seen
alcohol causes more damage to your body than marijuana
I've seen more people lose everything they have do to alcohol
I've seen families ripped apart because of alcohol including my own
My dad use to be an alcoholic and switched to marijuana as another escape as you might call it. Its been a year without the drink and hes far better off now than he was.
Now hes a totally different person, Feels better health wise and even has more energy now because of how bad alcohol was damaging his body.
so arguing that marijuana cause people to lose everything they own might be true but alcohol can cause the same exact problem so what really is the difference here?
Until some of you actually live with an alcoholic you gonna think marijuana is worse than alcohol but the truth is its the other way around.
Their is far worse drugs to worry about that some weed anyway IMO

yeah its pretty much already legal here in california, I'm sure the feds will legalize it eventually, after they realize how much potential revenue they are losing.

I smoke all the time, and i have had no desire to do any other drugs. That "gateway" drug crap is made up to scare small children from ever trying it. Honestly I only smoke after work, or if I am relaxing, i don't see any harm in it at all.

Illegal. Because of two things: 1) Proven gateway drug; 2) Mental Impairment, almost immediately upon initial dose. Some will say the addictive nature of cigarettes, and they're legal. Addictive, yes. Impairment, no. What about alcohol? Already went through a period of prohibition in history, but there again. Addictive, no (alcoholism is a disease); impairment, yes, but... not on the first dose. You have one glass of beer, depending on your bodily make-up and physiology, you're probably good to go. Smoke even a 1/4 of a joint, you're toasted (no pun intended).

Illegal. Won't be legal. Never will be legal for recreational use. Medicinal purposes, yes, but until they can harness the therapeutic value of it. And as far as it being bs as a gateway drug, it's completely validated as such. Of course, there are exceptions. But the data support the facts. Not only that, regular marijuana use has been linked to a number of ill physiologic effects, including an increasingly depressed mental state and lack of desire/motivation... we don't need anymore lazy Americans around here, living in their mom's basement because they smoke pot all day long.
