Engagement ring vs. bike???

Just curious...would you guys ever consider selling your bike if it was the best means (largest "expendable" asset) to acquire an engagement ring for the other love of your life? I'd be curious to hear the reasons, hear stories of those who did, and general thoughts on the matter.

I should add I am not considering doing this but I do find it an intriguing topic.

vs. :love10:

I was going to comment, but it just made me angry.

Anyway, I was in the same position, but I sold some of my stuff to buy a ring. A few days before I went to pick it up and propose she left me for some guy at her work that turned out to not even like her . Keep the bike.

I have to meet someone who CAN afford a wife . But, instead of selling your bike, can't you finance a ring instead? That might be a better way to go.

I've quit a very good and stable job to be with the one I married. I did sell my 1997 F3 to help with the wedding costs.

I now have a new job, a wife and two beautiful little girls. I also have a 2006 600rr.

Love will make you do crazy things, just make sure it's with the right person.

I personally would feel really bad if my significant other had to sell his bike to get me a ring. I'd keep the bike honestly.

I would hope the woman I marry wouldn't let me sell my bike just to get her a ring. Hopefully I mean a little more to her than that. Keep the bike +1

Some view engagement rings are a symbol of commitment. The more you spend on one, the more you are committed to the relationship. But, I think there are better ways of showing commitment to your lover than a ring. If I met a girl that made me want to sell my bike for a ring, I sure hope my friends would pull a Saving Silverman on my ass.

I would hope most of us would understand true love versus, and object that we have a passion for. In any case, if I knew that was the lady I was going to marry and love for the rest of my life, in which I have a good paying job, and have plenty of "fun funds" I would sell my bike to help pay for a ring/wedding. However I would hope all of us would re-think our ideas over and over before making a final decision as stated previously women can be "false" and leave us at the blink of an eye.

Pride Determination and Faith in this world I will succeed.

Dang...some quick feedback...hitting myself for missing that box for the poll option, haha...keep 'em coming!

I personally agree with what someone said above about your significant other NOT wanting you to sell the bike because it is something that makes you happy.

Me personally, I wouldn't sell it but I would go to a store like Helzberg get a 12 months no payments and interest . Then pay it off before the 12 months or use your next year income tax on.

When me and my wife first got married we didnt have money. I think we spent around $300.00 clams for both our rings. Another $300.00 for our wedding! Rings are meant as a symbol not a status.
I agree that you want the best for her, but if you guys love each other I'm sure she'll understand. Mine sure did, and we've been married for 7 years this May.
Do what you can afford because it's the meaning of the ring that matters not the size. later on when you can afford it, do it. I did. Sure it cost me a couple of firefights =)(deployments) to afford it, but its nice to be able to splurge on your significant other.

I know that the girl I plan on marrying would NEVER let me sell my bike to get her a ring. She knows what I love to do and would never ask me to sacrifice that just for her. It's amazing that I have a wonderful girl that understands, therefore I make it a point to make sacrifices on my own for her. It's really up to you. Ask yourself .. . What's more important? Which one makes you more happy?

I with everyone who says if she loves you, she will know the bike is staying. If she doesn't then somethings got to go. Plus every argument you have will end with, "I can't believe I sold my bike for this ****."

how much do you like riding *rather how much would you miss riding if you got ride of the 2 wheels for the 2tits?
I look at it this way......If the girl was really into you not self centered and knew how much you liked riding (weather she liked the bike or not) she probably wouldn't want you to get rid of the bike for a symbol of your commitment to her. If your afraid of loosing her because she is impatient and want to get married but thinks your stalling then she aint worth it.
If you get rid of the bike and get the ring, how often would she have to hear from you how much you miss riding because you got rid of the bike to get her the ring and then picture the ring getting tossed back in your face with her saying that "well if you liked you bike so much then go get it back?!?!?"

TOUCHY SUBJECT. Ultimatley there is no easy answer and only the individual can answer that. thankfully I had already giving my wife her ring before I got my bike

I had a bf that gave me the ultimatum once. Him or the bike. I laughed at him... Hence my current single status!

I don't know about selling the bike just to buy a ring, that seems a little nuts.

Rings are just circular pieces of metal which symbolize commitment. I think if she's really the one, she will not want you to give up a piece of you (your bike) so that she can have a bigger rock.

And...if the rock that you buy her today, isn't big enough, there is always the inevitable upgrade. Most jewelers these days have "trade up" programs anyways, just make sure you pick one that isn't going anywhere if you plan on using that.

Keep the bike bro! If for whatever reason it doesn't work out, you'll still have the bike. I guarantee you she'll keep the ring if it doesn't work out. Besides, if she loves you, the type of ring doesn't matter anyway. On the other hand, that's the first thing females say to their friends "Congratulations, I so happy for you! Let me see the ring!" For most females the ring is indicative of how much you love them.

My gf was hammering on me last night because I bought new boots and fairings when I was "supposed" to by a washer/dryer. Guess I just have different priorities...Plus, SHE has a washer/dryer. Why do I need one too?

I was in the same situation but in a different order, I use to have a bike back in 2002 but a little punk hit me try'n to make an illegal u-turn. Since then my GF just hate motocycles. But since then we had son, brought a house, then I brought her a ring, basically I got her everything she ever asked for before I got what I wanted now I finally have an 08 CBR600rr. Money don't grow on trees if it's easy for you to get another bike I would consider selling it, but for me I had to wait 6 years just to own another bike again (I know to long).

Honestly, I bought my bike and a ring the same week about a year ago. The woman is gone but the bike is still here, and the ring is still new (She only wore it for about a month due to delayed resizing). Besides, don't sell the entire bike for just an engagement ring, you still have to invest in a wedding + wedding ring. But at any rate, if you want a .75ct Tiffany & Co 6-Point Solitare on white gold, let me know I can give you a good deal ;)
