I've got mine, with the way cops like to bust sportbikers it's only a matter of time before you get nailed. I don't know what the laws are in Nevada, but my advice would be if you can't wait to ride go get your temporary and sign up for MSF immediately. Obtaining your license isn't all that hard and with the MSF certification you may be eligible for an insurance discount.

I got my license then took the MSF course. Thought it'd give me an insurance break, not in good old Iowa though. The fine's around $100 for operating without a license/permit.
Do the MSF course to learn from it, taking the tests for the license at the DMV is so easy I just did it in a day. Test in moring, went to lunch, then driving test in the afternoon.

Cool

I got my license about 2 months ago. But I've been riding with a permit for about a year and a half before then. Yes I took the MSF course right before I got my license; surprisingly I picked up a few useful things, even after my experience. I would recommend to take it, if you have experience or not.

Got my License.

You need it around here now! Due to the increased amount of reckless newbies, posers, and squids. The cops are harrassing everyone, even the good guys!

I got my license before I even thought of hopping on a bike. It's a simple system...you get license you can ride bike, if you can't pass the DMV test you definitely do not belong on the road (this holds for cars too).

Why is that? I can ride but just because i can't make a right hand U turn i don't deserve to be on the road, how does that work? Look at all the dumba$$ people who have a license that can't drive. And what the hell do i need to know how to make a right hand U turn in a confined space for? This is F*cking America, There are no right hand U turns on the streets.

Looking at all the idiots out on the road just proves my point that the test is so simple that even an idiot can pass it.

Edit:
Would you drive your car without a license? I doubt it. I really don't see why people think that just because it's a motorcycle they don't need the license.

cause you can outrun the cops on a bike, a car would be more difficult.

It is not about making a right hand U trun. They want to see that you have balance and control when on the bike. If you can't pass that skills test then you shouldn't be riding. If your having trouble with it go after hours and practice on the lollipop.

and cops aren't allowed to chase in florida anymore. there was a pretty bad accident in i4 with a cop chasing a busa and a porsche....and you know who they blamed when the cop died from some high speed flip over or something...

The MSF was fun too. Plus you don't need to take the skills test if you take that course.

I got my permit and license as soon as possible. Having never rode a motorcycle and having a lawyer father guaranteed this. Seems like a pretty stupid question though, as the consequences of getting caught arent worth the few hours waiting at the DMV. Also, I have had friends get busted for various reasons in cars and bikes, and the costs start to add up over time. Its just not worth it most of the time. I would like to take a MSF course for the insurance discount, but it seems like a waste since I have been riding for several years now. Maybe they have a more advanced course that can still offer a discount? Need to check this.

If they catch you with just a permit.... do they just give you a ticket and let you on your way or do you have to get someone to follow you home?

give you a ticket, I spoke to a guy at the local DMV and he said a few years back when you went there to get your license if you didn't have someone with you they would give you a ticket and then let you take the test. Now thats F*cked up!!!

that and it feels good not having to look over your shoulder everytime you ride on the highway or at night with just a permit.

Had my permit for like a month or two, then I got my License. Have had it just about 9 years now. I don't see why people would put off getting it anyway.

I"ve been riding for 2 years and just got my license 3 months ago...

I've been pulled over before without it and walked away without a ticket...

It seems that the cops out here (NW of Chicago) or at least these two didn't know about the law (permits) ....

Passing that test is bullshit in my opinion. There should be a road test administrated with a skilled driver NOT some easy hop-skotch test drawn out on the pavement. . . .
