How Long Did It Take?

For everyone to get their first knee down? Just curious.

hahaha i was gonna say.
thats probably a not so good idea haha
but still hilarious
and i still havent got the knee down for lack of knee pucks
no chicken strips though and scraped the stock pegs in the canyons
i think you can take corners fast without your knee and still get that
bitch down

I got my knee down the first day I was on the track, but that was 3 years after I started street riding.

+1 this poll would be inconclusive I think as I can imagine some riding years and not getting it down. But then 1/2 a day at the track chasing your buddies....

Good point. Basically those who have been riding for a while just kinda waited for the track/instructions then were doing it that same day?

Correct. I rode pretty fast on the street, but never tried to drag my knee. Took a WERA/MCRA riders school and started dragging knee during the beginner's race (4th session on track).

I think it was my 4th trackday. About 2 years into it. I took my time. Saturday I drug a knee and by Monday I was bumped into the A group. Now I can drag a knee all over the place including the street (not recommended, especially for your first time.)

Once I could do it, I started dragging them everywhere I could on the track because it made me feel faster (even though I wasn't)

I got my knee down for the first time at my first trackday which was 4 months after I started riding. Once you get it down the first time it just comes natural from then on without even trying. I've never dragged knee on the street, but I've never worn knee sliders on the street either. Everybody has a different learning curve and dragging your knee doesn't always mean your the fastest.

I thought it would be fun once to just touch my knee on the street in street clothes.

Itís not.

My denim covered knee instantly dug in dramatically jarring the bike leaving skin.

Still haven't touched a knee, but I have tapped my toe a few times. I've never tracked it so I really haven't had and excuse yet.

True.....I use my knee like a feeler gauge to tell me how far I'm from the ground. I know I can lean the bike a little bit more after my knee touches, its kinda like an indicator.

within 3 months, also had back, head, hip (that one hurt) and, knee...good times.
I heard the first time is always painful :)

You've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

I didn't get knee down until my second track day last year. I started riding in 99 so guess the answer is 7 years.

I just never felt comfortable enough on the roads to try and get a knee down.

Exactly! The roads are not the place to learn how to knee drag. People who can drag on the streets most likely learned it at the track. I know that I spooked myself on the street a few times, but it was something I never could have done prior to learning how to knee drag at the track. The track is where its at. Go do a couple trackdays and then do a sprinted run up your local canyon. Its a night and day difference.

*Knee dragging is not recommended on the street because of the high speeds that are involved.
