Forum placebos

You know them, every forum has them.

Audiokarma.org - The vintage audio forums.

People there believe in $1,000.00 speaker cables, and $10,000.00 phono pre-amps. They use terms like tighter mids, and sparkling highs with an improved soundstage

Mylespaul.com - Gibson Les Paul forums.

People there believe in VERY expensive capacitors and different kinds of pickup rings making HUGE differences in the sound of electric guitars. Changing the wires inside giving a HUGE increase in sustain.

Motorcycle forums - like here as an example

People believe that going to a 520 chain (gearing changes aside) makes a huge difference in acceleration, less mass. On a street bike? lol.

They also believe the stainless lines make a HUGE difference in braking. Another lol. Maybe the difference is the fresh fluid and proper bleeding they have to do. Do you honestly believe that our precious sportbikes have sh1tty brakes until be buy shiny lines?

Soooo, any other examples?

Over time the stock rubber lines will wear out and become spongy, Honda even recommends replacing the lines after a certain period of time. So that could add to the "performance"

Sticky tires that wear out within 3k miles. For street use.

Fart cans.

Piggy back ECU controllers.

Shorty levers.

HID bulbs (gasp!)

Steering dampers (for us ol' tech folks)

What else... Oh yah. "Racing" air filters.

Edit: Quick shifters!

Sure I can come up with more but won't bother dedicating more of my time to this thought. Honda did well for 80%+ of people that buy the bike. Done.

The thing is with spending big bucks on anything is that after it's spent and bought, people generally feel subconscious pressure to believe it's better after dropping a huge sum.
