who rides Illinois tracks?

So I'm thinking of going to my first track day next track season. Anyone on here have any recommendations or tips. Ie which track to attend, what to take, etc. I've been riding on the street for about 5 years but have never been to the track and am anxious to get addicted! Lol.

Most likely first track day for you will be Autobahn Country Club in Joliet. Check in the trackday section for the trackday checklist. That pretty much sums it up. If you have any questions drop me a PM I am from Addison IL and have done many trackdays at all the semi local tracks except Putnam.

Also do you trailer your bike to the tracks? How early do you get there? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It is a very nice track. Yes I trailer to the track and also sleep in my trailer. At all STT events the gates open at 7am tech and registration is usually open by 720 riders meeting at 830. Intermediate goes out at 9 while novice goes to the classroom as soon as the riders meeting is over.

Is it possible to ride to the track, or would that not be wise? I dont have a trailer or a truck to haul my bike in. Do you guys take your families with you?

You don't want to ride to the track. Trust me. I have seen guys do that and then have to get a ride when they crash.

Think about the safety aspect - you are out all day pushing your mental and physical limits. Why try to ride home after that?

If possible, rent a uhaul motorcycle trailer (15 bucks a day) or catch a ride with one of us. That would be a much safer alternative and prevents last minute scrambling to get a ride/tow if you go down.

My wife comes out with me and is a fantastic pit crew and support system. If yo have young kids, that might not be for the best since the paddock is a VERY busy area and it's easy to get hurt running around.
