Chicago Observation

It's interesting to come on this forum and see everyone touting ATGATT - I share this opinion. However, riding around the city I see about 20% MAX of riders wearing a helmet and even less than that bothering with so much as riding jacket, gloves, jeans, boots. I have seen a few with a riding jacket and no helmet...because skin is helpful when you're in a coma or casket.

No real point to this thread other than to say that I think it's interesting that despite the number of people who would never ride without all their gear...we are woefully outnumbered in this city.

yup! thats how it is. that ridechi group mostly wear lids, but ride like a bunch of jags 95% of the time so I kind of avoid them. Though, the group of guys i've met up with from on here all wear lids gloves jackets, some have pants and boots

Yeah what jirish said is pretty much how it is, if you want trouble ride with ridechi. Seems like the humble riders are all CBR owners (including the ones from here), ridechi should be called ridegixxers. =P

I still ride with that group, but there seems to be two groups during the ride. The ones that want to cruise and the ones who ride like jamokes getting the attention of police. I just hang in the back and take it easy, there's always a few people who will hang back.

Sad but very true! I've already had my gear save me once so I have sworn to myself that I will always wear them when riding.

I always ride with gear (Gloves,Helmet, jacket) Lately though this Chicago weather, the humidity makes it very uncomfortable to ride with a jacket. I'll wear my armor vest, gloves and lid. I used to preach about riding with gear but in the end, riders will wear what they want. If something ever happens and they go down, Man up and face the consequences. Nothing you can do.

It's funny how most people don't notice the lack of gear. I rode my NT650 to look at a pick-up truck and the seller went on about how scared he is of falling and getting hurt, and noted I was wearing a helmet. I pointed out my jacket was armored (Scorpion Hat Trick), my pants (City 2) and I had motorcycle shoes (okay, just TCX Streets).

While we were talking and looking over the truck, he saw 5 or 6 other bikes go by with no one wearing anything; he'd never noticed how few people wear anything.

These days I laugh at the dudes riding in a tank top and shorts with the chick on the back in short shorts and flip flops. They're everywhere! Every time I ride ATGATT - helmet, jacket, gauntlets, over pants and boots.

I see this to, mostly in town not on the freeway, but u cant still get hurt at slower speeds in town, plus theres vehicles that could hit u if u go down, wht pisses me off is if these dudes are to cool for gear fine thats their problem, but dont take ur girl on the back with hardly any clothes on & put her at risk to
Ritards

I confess I skip the pants sometimes. I wear them when I'm specifically going riding, but for a quick errand I just do the helmet, jacket, gloves and shoes. It's ironic, since riding pants are made to look like jeans or dockers/cargo pants.

It's funny to see the looks non-geared riders give you sometimes. When I'm geared up on my CB400 next to a guy on a big Harley, he's clearly thinking "Seriously? That little bike ain't gonna kill you!"
