Help In GTA where to get a customer Suit?

Hey Gang I need your help/suggesstions. My dilema. So I went to 3 different stores today looking for a new track suit ( 1 piece or 2) . I looked at everything and anything and regardless of brand/make etc nothing would fit me. Even the biggest size would not fit. The problem is I have extremely wide shoulders and zipper doesn't zip past my chest So at my last stop today at Riders Choice, John did his best to outfit me but he conceeded there is no way any suit will fit me and I need a custom suit. So here I am soliciting info on where to get a custom suit made. John can get it done also but I was curious to see what was out there since i have no idea what's out there in the GTA or area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Mike.

I tried Dainese, joe rocket, technic, and there was one or two other brands. The closest I got was a dainese suit size 60 Eur but paint would have fit less tight. . I didn't set a specific budget because when it comes to safety equipment and tires I don't like to cheap out. I just need to look at what my options are. I know right now a suit custom made will be about $2K based on what I have found out so far. But I just started today! Where are these places relative to Toronto? I travel a lot so have no problems communting but I need to know that whoever is making the suit really knows their stuff because I'd hate to find out on a track day. So the research begins. Thanks.

well if you are thinking of spending anywhere near 2K, I would go with a suit from Rs taichi, I have bought and sold more than 20 suits, and out of them all, RS taichi is the best hands down,

Dainese is a close second

their suits will run about 2K and that will be custom, they will use their top quality japanese leather, so you wont be working with any of that brazilian stuff, its thinner and drum dyed,

if you are going to spend that much on a suit you should get the best quality for your money, Drum dyed leather is weaker due to the ink soaking into the fibers of the leather and well, making it weaker due to it being the binding element, here is a video from sportbiketrackgear in regards to the strength of the silk screened leather,

at 5:50 he starts tearing leather panels, hahaha

you can do barnacle bill he is in kentucky,

spyder leather works is in wisconsin,

http://www.spyderleatherworks.com/7.html

i would get quotes,

Bill has been in the racing seen for years and worked along side racers at the track so he knows his stuff,

really its thickness of the leather, get at LEAST 1.4mm

the Dainese laguna seca and some of the lower end rs taichi use the brazilian 1.2- 1.3mm brazilian cow hide, haha quotes in most of their suit print outs, but the top end rs taichi suits use the 1.5mm silk screenede japanese cow hide, to me that would mean, thicker and less compromise due to the dyeing,

I in no way work for rs taichi I WISH I DID< hahah, i just do insane amounts of research and found that the older dainese suits, early 2000 and back were made in italy and were of better quality then they do today, the whole industry turned to the brazilian, and sent production to the eastern countries and china, you can still find some who are made in italy, but they are top of the top of the line,

oh yeah, kangaroo is also a good quality leather, lighter than cow hide and supposedly more durable, but I think cow is the way to go,

well bro, hit me up if you need any info, I spent hours and hours, researching and finding out what is the best suit for the money, knox makes some of the best armor,

puma gp 1000 best protection out there,

good luck, I hope you find a suit that fits and protects you well, I had a dainese fogarty suit ducati corse, which I really like their work, in size 60 and I hear ya the shoulders are still a bit narrow,

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for all the help guys! It will help me ask questions I wasn't aware of to ask. Much appreciated!

It's nice to know I have some choices and a little more research is needed but otherwise good to go!

Egierda, I was at rider's until close last night and will be there at 9.30am tomorrow morning. I see a fortune being spent this winter

Try Bickel Racing... He is located near the GTA. Not sure his info, but I am sure a google search will yield good results. He does his own tirewarmers and knee sliders too.... And leather reapare. If he doesn't do custom suits - he can direct you to someone in the GTA who does. I know there are some out there.

You could also check out Velocity Sportsgear located in Mississauga. Jimmy deals primarily with custom suits and has great pricing.

I looked at Spyder Leather works' page.
On their FAQ page on the bottom they state that they don't do custom suits. (reason below)
I'm assuming it would be hard to alter/add leather to a stock suit to fit?

"No, as it is very time consuming. We are currently focusing on our core services. If you would like a recommendation on where to have a custom suit built, please call or email and we’ll point you in the right direction. "

Hope this helps someone!!

I ended up buying a Dainese two piece suit at Rider Choice. Top of the line but worth it. I was amazed when I got it to fit with a jacket size 60. Its snug but it works. John said he can get me outfitted for a custom 1 piece if I want.

I'm really wide across the shoulders which is what part of the problem is. Not fat luckily but sorta built like a brick **** house which makes finding things that fit a problem sometimes. Just another reason why I'm not worried about making the bike faster because at my reduced weight of 245 before leathers I will never be fast

Joke about GTA standing for Grand Theft Auto instead of Greater Toronto Area. Not as funny if I have to explain it.

I'm afraid to weigh myself with gear! 600 is enough but there are days you just miss the raw torque and power of the bigger bikes too. Fingers crossed for the S1000RR to find it's way to my garage yet.

Met a shorter but very large fellow at a track day once, he was riding a Honda RS250 and could hold his own against the 600's out there. Then a couple of years later, even bigger guy on a GSXR1000 and he was absolutely destroying everyone without a race license.

I see you already found something but if you are looking again try IM Leathers in Hamilton. I have seen many great suits made custom by them and you can even design your own. Full piece leather with hump, all armour runs approx $1200. They do really nice work.

I may just ceck them out! Thanks. Never opposed to an extra suit, especially custom made. Thanks.
