Cool MC Escher in 3D

My fun side project is almost done. Idea is to re-create one of the well known MC Escher immposible drawing in 3D and then animate the characters moving around.

Modeling is done.
Animation is in progress.

See results so far.

Is there some way to get the actual speckled look of the original in the 3D model?

Sure... just adding noise to the shaders or just faking it in photoshop could work as well.

I use a lot of different tools, but for this one it was Maya and Mental Ray for rendering.

You speak the truth as this was not the only thing of his I modeled.. Here is "Relativity" from another angle in 3D> made it back in a day.
