The course was very good. I talked to alot of people before signing up and was a bit torn as many said it was awesome and others said they have learned more from experienced riders at regular track days. I'm personally glad I went.
Michel goes through alot of the basics that many take for granted. The morning is in class theory where you'll learn about lean angle, turn in, apex and exit points, body positioning, braking etc. It's a little slow but it's good information. Listen, you will learn something for sure. The nice thing is it also alows you some time to get the butterflies out of your stomach before getting on the track. I was pretty nervous, it being my first track experience.
As I mentioned above, you get 7-10 minute track sessions. This was a bummer for me because I was stoked to be out there. The good thing is they really allow you to wade into the deeper water at a controlled pace. They start you out with a few sighting laps and the instructors really keep things in check. They also rotate the riders behind the instructor so each person has a one on one experience who adjusts to each persons riding ability.
After each track session, Michel addresses each group and basically adds more onto the foundation you should have built in the last session. FAST uses the Nelson track so it doesn't allow you to go buck wild like say Mosport would. I basically used 3 gears but I was ringing the bike's neck at points. LOL
I guess if I had to complain about the track, my beef with the Nelson circuit is that it has only 7 turns and unfortunately, 5 of them are rights leaving only two lefts. The lefts are also tight and slow, not to mention that corner 7 has an asss puckering piece of concrete that you go over if you blow your line. Although traction really isn't a problem, it plays with your mind a little.
Be careful on corner three too. Since two leads to a bit of a straight, a few people came into 3 hot and went off. Thankfully, nobody went down, just a few dirt/grass excursions.
I won't be doing phase 2, at least this or next year due to fundage. I've already signed up for a few more track days starting with the goloracing day on July 8th for this season.
Good luck with your day, you'll enjoy it....
