Battery and Electrical Problem...HELP!!

Gents,

I am having issues with my 04 CBR600RR. It has 3070 miles on it and gets used very very little. The bike has more or less sat for the last two years as I have been deployed for the majority of that time. I am going to sell the bike here shortly but am having problems with the battery. I put a brand new battery in it and it fired right up, I came back out to start the bike a couple of days latter and it was completely dead. This has happened a couple of times after I recharge the battery. And no I am not leaving the key in it or on! It almost seems as though the bike is discharging the battery as it sits. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Fellas.

Any aftermarket accessories (alarm, etc.) that could be drawing power? Doesn't look like it from you sig though.

You can check to see if the bike is drawing any power by unhooking the + and then touching it back to the battery. If you have good size spark the bike is drawing a good amount of power. All that should be running on the bike is the clock, so it shouldn't spark that much.

No major electrical mods, just a speedo calibrator, put that was all plug and play and has never given me an issue. I took the battery to a batteries + to get it reconditioned.

may be stupid but did you properly charge the new battery before it was installed? i know most that you add the acid in when you get home require about 2-3 hrs on a slow charge no more than 2amp/hr before using it

No the battery is a sealed case battery so no need to add H2O. It came fully charged and ready to drop in the bike.

Get a voltmeter put it on the charged battery while its connected and see if your losing power. If it is draining with the bike turned off you will see it and have to trace it to the source. If its not getting drained while hooked up to the bike then the problem is your battery, i have had a brand new one that was bad before.

Thats sounds like a good idea, thanks. If it does end up draining with the bike off, do you have any ideas what it might be? I did put some LED front turn signals on the bike that I had to spice up, but that was a long time ago and they never gave me any problems. Any ideas of what it might be if it is draining.

The bike might not be draining, could be a bad battery; wont keep a charge.

charge it up, start the bike, check the voltage at idle should be around 13.5VDC, and at 5000 RPM with the highbeam on. the voltage should raise a significant amount, but should be less than 15.5 VDC. it's a Gen 1 so i worry about the R/R when people have battery issues when it comes to this particular generation.
