Not going into gear..

So i got this used engine from a guy who just had it sitting in his garage..
so i swapped it...and wen i put in the **** lever it wont go into gear...
that pin inside the engine where the shift lever go on to has alot of play in and out..so i tried holding in the clutch and what not and still wont...
i havent started the engine yet...think maybe engine needs to be run before i can pop it in gear?? or that shaft having too much play a sign of something bad?
lmk thanks

If the shaft on your clutch has too much play, the stop on the inside of the engine might be bent. You will have to remove the clutch cover and clutch basket and you will be asble to bend it back..or replace if broken....also try pulling the shaft all the way out, and see if the bike will go into gear...if it does..that might be your issue.
