Bike Died, Mid Ride - Electrical problem?

First off, this is for a friend that cannot find a good Superhawk forum. I said I would ask here if anyone had a furum or any answers. So, first queston; is there a good Superhawk forum? If not ill get into the problem that he experienced.

My buddy has a moderatly well maintained 1998 VTR 1000 Superhawk wth about 10000 miles on it.

Today he was riding and as he went to shift and accelerate nothing happened. He looked down to see that there was no power to the instruments. He coasted to a parking lot. Evidently he had had a few times when the same thing happened and all he had to do was tighten the battery cable. This time nothing has worked. The battery was at full charge when pulled off bike. A replacement battery (at full charge) made no change when installed.

What could be some problems that would cause this? I thought about an igntion switch failed (because I cannot think of another single point where all power passes).

Any Ideas??

It's either a loose battery connection or the main fuse.
