03 ignition

I recently purchased an 03 600rr. Someone attempted to steal the bike from the previous owner and they basically destroyed the ignition. I had a universal ignition from one of my old F2's, I was able to plug this into my new bike and the lights and guages all work but the fuel pump would not. after some playing around ( trying to ground the bank sensor and other things ) I called a friend with the same bike and we plugged in his ignition to my bike and magically it fired up immedietly! Since all the locks have been tampered with (ignition, gas cap, seat lock) I will be purchasing an entire set.. this leads to my first question..

1) will an ignition from other year bikes besides the 03-04 work on my bike?

2) why wont my universal ignition work?? does it have something to do with the voltage.... I think I remember reading something about that somewhere???

any help is appreciated! thanks

You will need one from an 03-04 ignition to make the fuel pump turn on.
Post up some pictures of you and your bike and I can help you out with why or give you alternatives such as keyless ignition with a hidden switch, this way you don't have to buy a whole new lock set. T
