Gauge Cluster doing weird stuff anyone experience this

Hey Guys,
Alright ill keep this short and simple- 2008 CBR 600rr

1. Started the bike up this morning- the bike was in the garage overnight so it was somewhat cold- well the temp started readin 98 degrees and going up like it should and all of sudden it shot up to 270 degrees and my temp light came on and then few seconds later the temp starts jumping around.

2. I head off to work cuz i was late and i know the bike wont over heat so i continue on my way. After about 5 min down the road my MPH start acting up. They start jumping all over the place and soon end up at 0 mph the whole way to work. This also means the actual miles on the bike dont go up either.

3. So no i got no TEMP and no MPH......i continue to work (i know its stupid but i really think this is a electrical problem and not a mechanical problem)

4. Now 15 min later into the ride i get a FI and HESD light and it stays on until i turn the bike off and on. It basically resets itself.

5. The RPM needle works just fine?

Anyone ever seen this or experience something like this????

check your dash connector for breaks and solid connections.

have you done any work to the bike recently or has it been involved in an incident with the ground?

I havent done anything recently- the only thing close to electrical was i moved my license plate (it has a light on it) but i already had connectors on it and just unplugged it and plugged it back in.

about 2 months ago i put in PCIII and LED for the pegs and everything was working fine since then.

I also changed the LED's inside the cluster 2 months back and its been working fine since.

The bike has not had any contact with the ground.

I wish the cluster had no power because that would be easier to fix. Since its random and doing crazy stuff- is really weird. Yeah im gonna go home today and check the connections on the back of the cluster and al the fuses and the battery voltage and connection.

You might want to recheck your work inside the dash if the connector is good. Something might have come loose.

this problem you are experiencing is a decent concern on doing the LED gauge mod. A new gauge cluster is $$$.

2007 CBR 600RR (white/silver)
- Leo Vince titanium slip-on
- Pazzo shorty black/red clickers
- '06 tailight mod + custom plate hanger/LED frame
- T-Rex matching sliders and spools
- Lockhart Philips smoke flush signals
- Carbon fiber hugger
- SportTech black chrome windscreen
- open air intake mod

Ok so i took it to the dealer to see if they had any insight on it- they said either a bad ground or bad ECM.

I checked all my connections and still nothing?

But how could it work for 2 months and now stop working????

like i said, it's likely something in the dash vibrated loose in 2 months time.

didn't you say you performed some LED modification to it in your last few replies?

Im trying to find someone right now to swap just to see... but i have a hunch its not that- reason being. When i turn the bike on the cluster does all the routin checks fine so the numbers all work- its like getting the wrong info from the ecm or something. the mph saying at 0 is annoyning and the temp jumping around is so bizzare.

gotta be something loose or corroded possibly... this is so annoyning

could be. have you checked all the connectors like i told ya? the blue and gray connectors under the left air duct, behind the dash, and the two on the ECU?

i dont see a blue n grey connector- i unplugged all connections up front and plugged them back in.

I just got to the ecm and unplugged that as well - still nothing

also- i turn key on the cluster does its things- when everything settles down i hit the engine cut off switch to on and soon as i do that the temp guage drops by 20 degrees instantly everytime. and if i hit it off it goes up 20 degrees????

if a PCIII goes bad what are the symptoms of that????

This might be a bad ECM????

you might want to take it to a honda dealership to make sure the ECU is working right. there is a special adapter they use to test for circuit anomalies.

Heres a update for you guys and good info in the future if anyone has this problem- this is what i did to pinpoint the problem

Check this out guys- i went hardcore into the electrical testing of this to determine what it is and i found the problem... ill explain

First since my mph is random- sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt so i started there.
1.I checked for voltage at the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) it had 11.94v (thats good)
2. I checked for continutity from the VSS back to the Cluster (thats good)
3. I checked for voltage at the cluster from the VSS output (that was good)
3. Then i hand spun the rear wheel while testing for voltage at the cluster on the VSS wire output and it should pulse from 0-5v while spinning the rear wheel. So i spun the tire a few times and it was working fine (on the multimeter and the cluster)
4. So now i had to wait until the cluster was reading 0 to determine what is the culprit- so i turned the engine on (btw im doing this all by myself with no help trying to hold a volt meter and pin point in 2 diff spots and run the engine is not fun lol) so anyways turn the engine on- put it in first gear since the rear tire is on a jack stand- i let the clutch out all the way and kept it running at about 8 mph. So now the dash and multimeter are working at this time. I waited about 5 min (it seemed like 2 hours) and guess what happened- the cluster goes to 0mph (the tire is still going) and the multimeter is still showing a voltage the same voltage before the cluster showed 0- which tells me its my freakin cluster that is bad. If the voltage dropped on the multimeter too it would have been the VSS but it didnt.

New Cluster here i come
